People are often surprised when I say there are dozens of Abundance groups on college campuses, from community colleges to private schools. But we get inbound every week. Young people want to solve the problems they see and do something in their own backyards.
Read more here: theabundantfuture.substack.c…
Abundance Corps has gone from two campus groups to 24 chapters across 12 states in a year. Ahead of the midterms, founders @Victoriazren and Maxwell Stern wrote in the Abundant Future on why young people want a politics that gives them something to build.

I’m hiring a Chief of Staff to be my right hand across everything I do at Cosmos.
That starts with Cosmos Institute (@cosmos_inst), the nonprofit I founded after selling two AI companies, having two kids, and thinking hard about the good life and the good society. Through the Institute, we do research internally and with fellows from @GoogleDeepMind, @AnthropicAI, @OpenAI, @Microsoft, and academia, have given out 200+ grants to build fast prototypes, and we’re launching a big new in-person bet for higher education in 2027. This side of my work also includes @UniofOxford, where I co-teach a graduate seminar on philosophy and AI and support the Human-Centered AI Lab (HAI Lab), as well as a book I’m writing on human autonomy in the age of AI.
On the venture side, you’ll work with me across Cosmos Ventures (@cosmos_vc), our new $77.6M fund backing founders building new institutions for the AI age. Our early portfolio includes companies like AIUC (@aiunderwriting), @PrimeIntellect, and Workshop Labs (acq. by @thinkymachines), with several more to be announced soon. We’re also going to be incubating new companies in 2027.
You’ll come in, do this well for two years, and if you want to build a thesis-aligned company or a nonprofit next, we will back you, or place you at a top company in our community. The role is based in Austin, with relocation provided.

When I ran for Congress, I promised to focus on the issues families talk about every day: lowering costs, making government work for the people it serves, and protecting our rights.
Over the past two years, I've led four bipartisan housing bills that have become law to reduce housing costs, worked across the aisle to push for ACA tax credits we need to reduce health premiums for 23 million Americans, introduced legislation to advance AI safety, and fought to prevent President Trump and members of Congress from using their positions to enrich themselves.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve Silicon Valley, the Peninsula, and the Coastside in Congress. I hope I've earned your support on November 3 so we can continue working together to help families thrive and protect our Constitution.

Congress has a responsibility to enact meaningful AI regulations, but to do so, we need to dramatically increase the base knowledge of Congress.
I've worked to bring leading AI experts to Capitol Hill to help my colleagues better understand the technology, but we still have a long way to go – and AI isn’t going to wait for us to catch up.

Amy Acton was raped by her stepfather when she was 12.
As a former prosecutor of child sexual abuse, I saw this pattern too frequently: a child victim discloses the abuse by a stepdad or mom’s boyfriend, and mom takes the abuser’s side because she can’t bear to think that she had exposed her own child to a monster.
Mom is protecting mom—not the child.
Every DA will tell you the same—it’s a painful pattern. It’s the most infuriating thing to hear a mother accuse a child of lying despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I’ve had jury members plead with me after trial to arrest the mother for aiding and abetting.
Vivek Ramaswamy has embraced the Trumpian role of taking the side of the predator—and despicably rolled out Amy’s estranged mother to denounce Amy.
The brother of @amyactonoh confirms Amy’s account. The child protection authorities did the same—and took custody of both of them away from Acton’s mother.
This is disgusting politics. Vivek, you may not be better than this, but the American people are.

We don’t talk with Beijing about AI safety because we trust them. We talk with them because the alternative can be catastrophic—for us and for them.
The current approach, though, puts political leaders at a table without any likelihood of getting anything done that will mitigate risk.
Going to be a good time next week!
Thank you @cosmos_inst! Looking forward to bringing in Kant, Spinoza, and some Gadamer into the discussion next week.

Thank you to everyone at @UChicago who joined @jacobneplokh and @GilRubinstein for their first session this week! If you weren't there, you missed out on a lively discussion of Aristotle, Mill, and AI.
If you're a student at @UChicago, we're proud to be supporting a reading group on AI, philosophy, and human autonomy – starting from the week October 4th in Hyde Park.

For months, I’ve warned about what I call the “cockroach theory of AI regulation.” That is, an encounter with one cockroach in the kitchen should give rise to the discovery that dozens more have already partied their way through the pantry and run off with the fruit cake.
Recent disclosures of even more rogue AI agents should wake us up to the need for action. @MikeJohnson should immediately bring Congress back to Washington to vote on the many bipartisan proposals already written, to mitigate the risk of catastrophe. Inaction is unforgivable.
SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios.
The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed.
The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment.

Rep. Sam Liccardo says Congress needs a clear AI threshold before RSI, and the labs still haven’t given it one:
"I'm still working out a set of proposals that I think are technologically implementable. I certainly don't disagree with Greg or with Senator Sanders about the imperative that we not reach the point at which superintelligence exceeds human control."
"The relevant mechanisms need to come into play before we get to RSI, not after. I'm not optimistic about legislation that says we're going to ban this unless we can hear clearly from the safety community at the labs what are the thresholds."
"Frankly, I haven't heard that yet"
"Once we get to RSI, I'm not confident that there's any congressional enactment that's really gonna matter."

Come join @GilRubinstein and me in reading texts—ancient, modern, and contemporary—to better understand the philosophical (i.e., the human) stakes of AI. Thank you to @cosmos_inst for the support, and we're excited to be piloting this experiment!
