As I reflect on my visit to Lomé last week, I am reminded once again of the extraordinary potential of African women to lead and transform our continent. From the remarkable women working tirelessly in our markets and communities to those serving in the highest offices of leadership, I witnessed the same strength, determination and commitment to making a difference. But what touched me most was the power of solidarity, sisterhood and genuine care for one another. When women lift each other up, share their experiences, open doors and create opportunities for the next generation, leadership becomes more than a position. It becomes a collective force for transformation. Our greatest strength lies not only in how far we rise, but in how many women we bring along with us. I leave Togo deeply inspired and convinced that when African women stand together, across generations and all walks of life, there is no limit to what we can achieve. A new week, a renewed commitment to lifting one another higher! ❤️🌍 #AfricanWomenLead #AWLN #WomenLeadership #Sisterhood #IntergenerationalLeadership #Togo #Agenda2063 @AWLNetwork

Women already have the knowledge and skills to lead. What they need is access to land, financing, equipment, training and a real voice in decisions. In Malawi, women in the pigeon pea value chain gained land, irrigation, tractors and training with support from @FAO , @OCPGroup and partners. Governments should invest in what works and adapt these models in other countries. In the Lake Chad Basin, I saw how lost livelihoods deepen insecurity and make people vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups. Investing in economic opportunities for women and young people is also peacebuilding. Member States must make sure commitments reach communities. And men and boys must be part of the change, from the household to the classroom, through the @AWLNetwork work on Positive Masculinity. #WFF2026 #FoodSecurity #AWLN @Fasngo @World_FoodForum @_AfricanUnion

2⃣What we need: ✅Flexible, long-term financing for women-led organizations and grassroots cooperatives ✅Stronger protection against violence and intimidation ✅Greater investment in women's economic empowerment as a foundation for sustainable peace At @AWLNetwork , we continue to advocate for the AU-CEVAWG. Continental commitments must become concrete protection at the grassroots level. Move from commitments to investment, from consultation to decision-making power, and from recognizing women's resilience to resourcing their leadership. There can be no sustainable food security without women's security, economic empowerment and leadership. #WFF2026 #FoodSecurity #WomenPeaceSecurity 2/2🧵 @World_FoodForum

1⃣"Food security is not only a humanitarian question; it is a question of power." At the #WorldFoodForum2026 side event "Women in Agrifood Systems: Breaking Barriers at the Frontlines of Crises," I spoke about the realities of women in conflict-affected communities across Africa. It is time to move from recognizing women's contributions to ensuring their meaningful participation in decisions on food security, resilience and recovery. 🧵 1/2 @World_FoodForum @FAO @AWLNetwork @Fasngo

On the ground in #Dakar 🇸🇳 the @GimacNetwork team continues its advocacy work at the @NGOForum & @ACHPR meetings. With #WASH as a key priority theme, we are actively engaging stakeholders to ensure gender perspectives are integrated across all discussions and outcomes. “Africa cannot achieve water security without gender equality.” As the 8th GIMAC CSO-RECs Strategic Meeting drew to a close, the final reflections reinforced what has echoed throughout the meeting: water is about much more than infrastructure. For women and girls, it is about time, dignity, safety, health, education, livelihoods and care. The closing call was therefore to recognise, reduce and redistribute unpaid care through WASH investment; put women at the decision-making table; and ensure that financing delivers measurable improvements in women’s lives. Perhaps the message that best captures the journey of #8GIMACRECs: “When we invest in water, we invest in care. When we reduce women’s unpaid care burden, we expand their choices and opportunities. And when women have equal voice and power in water governance, we accelerate the Africa we want.” Three days of dialogue may have ended in New Alamein, but the work now continues, from commitments to implementation, and from consultation to meaningful influence. Thank you for making our joint convening a success! #8GIMACRECs #GenderTransformativeWASH #WaterJustice #GenderEquality #WomenLead #Agenda2063 #GIMACNetwork

The conversations have produced a roadmap for action. 🌍💧 The draft 8th GIMAC CSO-RECs Strategic Meeting Outcome Document translates three days of dialogue into concrete recommendations for the AU, RECs and Member States—from enforceable water rights and women’s leadership in water governance to gender-responsive financing, care-responsive WASH investment, accountability and accelerated implementation of Africa’s gender equality frameworks. Now comes the critical part: taking these recommendations from the meeting room into national and regional policies, budgets and action. #8GIMACRECs #WaterJustice #GenderTransformativeWASH #GenderEquality #Agenda2063 #GIMACNetwork

From Ethiopia and Uganda to regional networks across Africa, organisations present at the #8GIMACRECs Strategic Meeting shared how they are using advocacy, research, survivor-centred programming, coalition-building and engagement with governments to advance efforts to end violence against women and girls. GIMAC is supporting this momentum by mapping organisations, strengthening young women’s advocacy, analysing national legal frameworks and developing tools to support country-level engagement on AU-CEVAWG. The call: take the Convention home, build the movement around it and keep Member States engaged. #8GIMACRECs #AUCEVAWG #CivilSociety #EndVAWG #YoungWomenLead #WomensRights

His message: use gender-responsive budgeting to ensure WASH investments deliberately reduce unpaid care burdens and expand women’s opportunities for education, livelihoods and participation. Success is not simply how much we spend, but what changes in women’s lives. #8GIMACRECs #GenderTransformativeWASH #UnpaidCareWork #GenderResponsiveBudgeting #WaterJustice

Reducing that burden means investing in services that give women back time, dignity and opportunity, while ensuring their lived experiences inform the decisions and investments intended to serve them. Care work must be recognised, reduced and redistributed. #8GIMACRECs #UnpaidCareWork #GenderTransformativeWASH #CareEconomy #GenderJustice @OxfaminAfrica
