CHINA’S GRAY-ZONE TACTICS EXPOSED: REPEATED INTRUSIONS, FAILED INTIMIDATION
China is once again exposed for using its maritime militia to pressure the Philippines and normalize its unauthorized presence in Philippine waters.
On October 9, 2026, Chinese Maritime Militia Vessel 9622 deployed 22 sampans near Kota Island, with the closest vessel just 250 meters from the shoreline. The mothership reportedly encircled PCG rubber boats while its master signaled Filipino personnel to leave.
But the intimidation failed. The PCG, Philippine Marines, and Philippine Navy worked together to drive all the Chinese vessels away.
More tellingly, this is the same Chinese vessel that was repelled from Kota Island less than two weeks ago. Its return exposes a recurring pattern: deploy vessels, assert baseless claims, pressure Filipino personnel, and attempt to normalize an unauthorized presence through repeated incursions.
China cannot manufacture sovereignty through intimidation and repetition. Kota Island is part of the Philippines, and no amount of gray-zone pressure can make China's claims legitimate.

At least 13 people, including three children, were killed and more than 90 others were injured in attacks over the past 24 hours and this morning. In the Zaporizhzhia region, nine people were killed, including three children, and more than 50 were injured. Dozens of residential buildings were damaged, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. In the Kherson region, two people were killed and nine others injured. Residential areas, critical infrastructure and social infrastructure facilities came under attack. In the Donetsk region, one person was killed in Kramatorsk and 11 others were injured. In Mykolaiv, a 64-year-old man was killed, while energy and industrial facilities, residential buildings and administrative premises were damaged. Six people were injured in the Kharkiv region and four in the Sumy region. In the Zhytomyr region, one person was injured in an attack on railway infrastructure. The Dnipropetrovsk region was also subjected to attacks that damaged logistics facilities, municipal vehicles and infrastructure across several districts. In the Vinnytsia region, a private house and an outbuilding were damaged.
