"Today, on Sex Worker Pride, we celebrate who we are, the movement we have built and the strength we find in one another.
Across Africa, we organise, lead, speak for ourselves and continue to push for change.
Our pride also means demanding better: an end to violence, stigma and discrimination, and the full decriminalisation of sex work.
We deserve to live and work safely, freely and with dignity.
This is our movement. This is our pride."

Happy S*x Worker Pride Day!
September 14 is S*x Worker Pride Day. It is an opportunity for us to share our stories of self-determination and the achievements of the s*x worker rights movement.
It highlights the importance of visibility and inclusion within society.
This is not only a day to celebrate the diversity of s*x worker identities and experiences, but it also serves to reinforce the message that we are integral members of the community, and are deserving of recognition, inclusion, respect, and rights.
By embracing pride in our work and community, we continue to push the boundaries of societal norms, advocating for decriminalisation, safety, and human rights for ALL s*x workers.

Being a sex worker does not mean giving up the right to make decisions about our own bodies.
Our pride is in having choices. We choose what works for us from contraception and HIV prevention to decisions about pregnancy, healthcare and consent.
And today, there are more choices than before. New HIV prevention technologies and options are being developed, giving us more ways to choose what works for our bodies, our health and our lives.
But having options is not enough if we cannot access them.
Our choices should be respected. Our bodies should be respected. And we should be able to access the care and prevention options they need without judgement or stigma.
As we count down to International Sex Workers’ Pride Day on 14 September let us all remember that our bodies belong to us, our choices belong to us.
And we take pride in choosing for ourselves!

There is no end to HIV without rights for everyone.
At #AIDS2026, we said it loud and clear:
🗣️ Sex work is work.
✊ Rights are non-negotiable.
❤️ Health is a human right.
The HIV response cannot succeed while sex workers continue to face criminalization, stigma, discrimination, and exclusion. When rights are protected, communities thrive, access to healthcare improves, and lives are saved.
No rights. No justice. No end to HIV.

☂️ International Whores Day - 2nd June ☂️
It started with a protest...
In 1975, over 100 s*x w*rkers and allies began an 8-day occupation at the Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon, France. The demonstration was in response to fines, stigma and police harassment; including the imprisonment of ten s*x w*rkers just days prior.
The action was widely reported on and, despite the protestors eventual removal by police, made a profound impact.
June 2nd has since become recognised as the beginning of the modern s*x w*rker rights movement. Every year, International Whores Day is celebrated with protests and events across the world.
