Growth in Latin America & the Caribbean remains resilient, projected at 2.3% in 2026, 2.5% in 2027 & 2.9% in 2028. Strong U.S. demand, commodity prices, tourism, & remittances are helping offset trade & geopolitical pressures. Read our latest outlook: imf.org/en/publications/reo/…

Sub-Saharan Africa’s growth remains resilient, with output projected at 4.5% in both 2026 & 2027. But the outlook is clouded by rising inflation, thin buffers, & downside risks. Policies should rebuild buffers, support growth, and protect the vulnerable. imf.org/en/publications/reo/…

Good Morning from Germany, where Gen Z is taking to the streets despite having some of Europe’s best job prospects. Youth unemployment stands at 7.5%, vs 21.9% in France, 19.9% in Italy and 22.8% in Spain. Germany’s young people have grievances, but on unemployment at least, far less reason to protest than their French or Italian peers.

Christine Lagarde announced this week that she will step down as President of the European Central Bank.
Count me among the many who have greatly admired her inspiring tenure, not just at the ECB, but at the IMF before that.
An extraordinary leader and visionary who secures consensus and communicates with mastery, she has done so much for both institutions, for central banking, and for Europe.

Good Morning from Germany, where gas prices are back at December 2022 crisis levels but storage is alarmingly low. Wholesale gas hit €100/MWh this week. Storage is just ~62% full, the lowest seasonal level since records began in 2009 and well below the original 70% target for Nov 1. Economy Minister Reiche promised no shortages. Regulators say supply remains secure. But supply security and affordability are two different things: a cold winter would leave Germany more exposed to expensive last-minute imports.

Looks like France is the eurozone’s new problem child. Q3 GDP fell 0.1% QoQ, vs +0.4% for the bloc, +0.6% in Spain & +0.2% in Germany. A shrinking economy makes an already daunting task even harder: cutting the deficit and winning back market confidence.
