Home. Ollie and Brave tested negative for both FeLV and FIV. I still suspect they each cleared FeLV earlier in their lives. The test to confirm they did is just too much $$. Both Ollie & Toby will need to be tested again next month. A good omen is that Toby is gaining weight, eating like a horse, is playful and developing a beautiful coat.

We go to leave for the vet, get Ollie and Braveheart stuffed in crates and loaded in my truck. Plenty of time. Truck won't start. Just drove it last night. Hubs opens the hood, there's a freakin' half grown possum on a nest of leaves behind the battery!! Now we're running late.

Morning, y'all. I'm a bit stressed out. The vet said there was no need for Ollie to be tested for FeLV today, have to wait 30 days, but we want a baseline on both Ollie and Brave. Last night I discovered 1 of the cat bites on Ollie's leg is now infected. It just all seems never-ending. 😕

For fourteen years, everyone thought U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant John Chapman died in the first two minutes on top of a freezing 10,000-foot mountain in Afghanistan. Then modern image technology unlocked the thermal camera footage recorded by a Predator drone circling high in the clouds on March 4, 2002. When Pentagon investigators watched the enhanced screen, hardened combat generals broke down in tears. Because the video proved that after everyone else had left the mountain peak, John Chapman woke up alone in the snow and fought an entire army by himself. That night on the peak of Takur Ghar, thirty-six-year-old Chapman, a father of two little girls from Connecticut, had charged uphill through thigh-deep snow alone to silence an enemy bunker and save his pinned-down team. Hit from a second bunker, he fell motionless. Believing he was dead, the surviving team was forced to retreat down the ridge. Chapman was not dead. The drone footage showed him regaining consciousness in the pitch-black snow, surrounded on three sides by enemy fighters, with nine separate wounds in his body. In total darkness, with no comrade beside him and nobody on earth watching except a silent camera in the sky, he refused to surrender. For more than an hour, he fought from inside the bunker, killing an enemy fighter in bare-handed close combat when they tried to rush him. Then, at dawn, Chapman heard the heavy thump of rotor blades in the mist. An American Chinook helicopter carrying twenty-three U.S. Army Rangers was flying straight toward the peak to rescue him, right into the sights of an enemy rocket launcher. Chapman knew that if he stayed safe inside the rock bunker, those twenty-three young Americans in the helicopter would be blown out of the sky. So on the thermal video, investigators watched John Chapman deliberately climb out of the bunker, stand up tall in the open snow, and fire into the enemy positions to draw every machine gun on the mountain onto his own chest. He died in the snow as the sun rose, shielding the incoming helicopter with his life. True bushido is what a warrior does when he thinks nobody will ever know his story. The sky was watching, John. And America will remember your name forever.

Little Toby is doing fine. We haven't neglected her just cuz Ollie came home. She's gaining weight and developing a very plush coat. We're just basically in a holding pattern with her, waiting for Brave's Wed vet appt, to be tested 4 FeLV. Ollie will need to be tested now, too.

Good morning 🌞 Several have asked, so here's how Ollie came home. Late Friday night I got up twice to refill my water jug, but ended up doing other things before sitting back down without water. IYKYK. 🙄 The 3rd time I stood up I saw a cat on the patio that I thought was Big Toby looking for seconds. The fairy lights on the patio make the orange cats look white at night. Then the cat stood up and I didn't see a tail. I screamed Ollie! so loud, he ran off the patio and under the fence. I grabbed two cans of cat food. My husband went out the front door with one, I went out back with the other. Ollie had come back to the patio, Big Toby was out there too, and Ollie dived into the can of food I set down. I scooped him up and brought him in. If I had stopped feeding the ferals after we caught Little Toby or if I wasn't so scatter-brained and had got water on my first trip to the kitchen, I would never have seen him. Now, guess who tried to run out the door when I took the dogs out this morning?

An early supper of barbecue takeout, cuz mama can't provide non-stop comfort and cook at the same time. You can see where he got nipped on the ear.

GM.🌞Very little sleep last night. Ollie came home with a severe case of separation anxiety. We have always discouraged him from getting on the bed w/ his spinal defect because it's a very high bed. He was glued to me last night, so I was awake all night, afraid he would fall. 🥱

Little Toby is doing great, healing well. I have switched her from wet cat food to wet kitten food for weight gain. She is tiny, only 5.8 lbs, but the vet placed her age at one year. I really want to get her a bigger enclosure but between the HVAC bill and the vet bill...😏

Mrs. Neighbor called me for advice today because her and a friend had a question about the wording on one of the ballot issues. Guess now we add political researcher in addition to my tech support for them. The joys of being the youngest boomer in a group of boomer friends. 😂
