That puny cucumber plant and I did this. no bees involved (where are the🐝?!) anyway, I hand pollinated a female flower & few wks later, BOOM, 1 cucumber, from a giant, prolific vine. Best cucumber in the world, tbh. ty, that is all. yay for growing food in one’s yard! 🙏 🌱☀️💧

the derivation of formulas for complex math problems must’ve been like the invention of GPS. no one can find their way without it now. it’s convenient, but makes us lazy. my dog doesn’t really care and that’s his gift

Just finished Till We Have Faces (and still trying to get my head around the allegory-beautiful, provocative prose). On deck: One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Goldfinch. I’ll decide which is 1st when I get my hands on the books this weekend. Happy reading, Maggie! #amreading – at Norfolk, VA
Currently reading: The Forest for the Trees by Betsy Lerner. This book sat on my shelf for 5+ years. I finally picked it up last night... and couldn't put it down. Just what I needed to read right now. Books find you at the right time/place! What are you reading? #amreading

4 happy flowery things 2day @NorfolkBotanic: 1) deeply fragrant white rose, 2) huge southern magnolia tree (many buds still to open), 3) wild honeysuckle squatting in a sad, past-bloom rhododendron hedge, 4) the most stunning, in-full-bloom, red rhododendron I’ve ever seen 🙏🌳🌺

I often wonder what his parents were like, to produce such a creature.

i wonder if the mealworms know they have this effect? 😁 (ducks and geese are highly underrated zoo inhabitants) – at Norfolk, VA
🦆💨🌊 Duck, duck, GO! In this video, common merganser Fabio speed-paddles across the flamingo pond at 6 miles per hour to Bird House keeper Heather Anderson. She is feeding our flock Fabio's favorite food: mealworms! 🐛🐟 They also receive smelt and sea duck pellets. #NatZooZen

4/ This goose lives in the white rhino habitat. She was trying to tell me something, but I didn’t understand her. I think it was good, tho, bc every other Canada goose I’ve tried to talk to in my whole life ran away or acted like it would kill me if I breathed on its babies.

last one! As most people don’t get to see Canada geese safely in the wild this close, please note they have the most gentle expressions ever. And this sweet pair has 6 eggs in a fluffy nest, right beside the zoo’s pedestrian path. They want us to know they are good birds! the end
