It’s the longest running homecoming tradition here at Texas State. It’s the 59th annual Soapbox Derby.

What if we had something like 10 conferences, all split up by region of the country. Then during the regular season, they play within their conference. Then we took the winners of each conference and put them in a playoff. Maybe we could add a few teams that were really close to winning their conference and call them “at large” bids. Then all of those teams could play in a tournament style playoff.
We could call it The College Football Playoff.
New Mexico, Boise State, or Oregon State.
JMU didn't schedule a single P4 opponent, and UTSA got outclassed by Texas 30-6. At least the other three teams went on the road and competed until the very end against some of the best teams in CFB! They shouldn’t be punished for SOS.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
JMU scheduled a 2026 game vs Virginia Tech (ACC) but VT cancelled it due to ACC's 9-game conference schedule change and paid JMU an $800k buyout per contract; JMU replaced it with San Diego State and had no P4 opponents on its final slate.

RIP to a coaching Legend, the guy that gave me a Second chance @ life
Coach Dennis Franchione.
Not liked by all but Respected by many!!
213-135 career record. Rest Easy Coach 🫡
For reference, this is what this post is referring to. 2024 was especially bad with pre-season CFP hype, probably the strongest team TXST has ever had, and being favored in every single game that year.
2023 (7-5)
1) ULL - 11 point 4th quarter lead - lost 34-30
2) Troy - 10-7 lead at halftime - lost 31-13
3) Arkansas State -favored by 3.5 - lost 77-31
2024 (7-5)
1) Arizona State - favored by 2.5 - lost 31-28 - 2 drives to attempt a FG for the tie or TD to win. Ended with int and failed 4th down conversion.

3) ODU - favored by 10 - lost 24-14

I don't blame anyone for questioning if Kinne is the right guy for the job at this point.
It's not just 1 or 2 (utsa and SDSU) games that people are upset about. It's a developing pattern over the past 4 years.
Every single year he's been coach there have been at least 2-3 sometimes more games that we were either favored in or had big leads half way through the game or longer that we ended up losing.
If you leave 2-3 wins on the table in year 1 or year 2, then maybe you can chalk it up to a new HC learning on the job. EVERY SINGLE YEAR? That's when people justifiably start asking questions.
He's in year 5 of being a HC and year 4 at TXST. How many years do you give a new HC that same "learning on the job" excuse?
Being realistic here though, we just signed him to an expensive and lengthy contract. Kinne isn't on the hot seat right now. Not because he shouldn't be, but because we can't afford the buyout if we wanted to.

This is a common trend under GJ Kinne. At least 6 losses after having double digit leads including the 2 from this year. He's also now 17-11 as a favorite. That's 11 losses in games you were favored to win in.
Finding ways to lose seem to be GJ's thing.
Surprisingly, the defense was the lone bright spot from this one. Hard to believe we failed miserably at every other facet of the game.
Special teams coordinator has to be fired immediately. GJ needs to do some soul searching and figure out why his teams constantly have discipline issues that results in poor decision making and lack of execution. It's an ongoing theme every single year under GJ.
