• Cimbri & Teutones — From Jutland centuries earlier. In the late 2nd century BC they poured south, smashed Roman armies, and nearly broke the Republic before Marius stopped them. Early proof of the mobility and force of these North Sea peoples.
• Heruls - Mobile warrior band tied to Jutland and the Danish islands. Served as mercenaries across the late Roman world, raided widely, and eventually merged into other Germanic groups. Classic example of the restless northern stock.
Add the ancient Swedes (Svear & Götar) and the wider Scandinavian peoples - the same Nordic stock that produced the Viking Age and earlier Germanic expansions. Their genes, language roots, and warrior traditions are woven through the same populations.
These tribes didn’t die out. They became the English, the Low Germans, the Dutch, the Scandinavians - and then the Americans, Canadians, Australians, and Boers who carried that blood further. The folk that built the modern West is still the same people, just living on different shores.
Remarkable to consider. The tribes of the Migration Era that finally brought Rome to her knees and claimed her old colonies mainly came from this little area - and they also went North into Scandinavia and changed Germanic culture everywhere so that their god Woden became the main one even in the Viking Age.

-The Franks who took Gaul between 486 and 507 AD originated in the Rhine-Weser region.

Not only did this swampy region produce the main characters of the Germanic world who introduced the new culture of runes, kings and halls- but they above all (with the help also of the Goths who came from Sweden) are responsible for reshaping all of Europe in the Migration Age - indeed the Franks practically invented the idea of Europe as we now know it.
