NUCLEAR 101 (Nuclear Science Week Edition!) ⚛️: The sodium-cooled fast reactor uses liquid metal (sodium) as a coolant instead of water.
This allows the coolant to operate at higher temps and lower pressures to improve the efficiency of the system.
AIN’T IT GRAND?
@Entergy's Grand Gulf Nuclear Station is the first & only nuclear power plant to produce electricity in Mississippi.
It’s the largest single-unit nuclear power plant in the U.S., churning out more than 1,400 megawatts of power in the state!

THAT’S IT?
This is what 20 years’ worth of used nuclear fuel looks like safely stored at the former Maine Yankee nuclear plant.
The plant generated 119 billion kilowatt hours of reliable power from 1972-1996, which is enough to power half a million homes each year.
FLASHBACK 📸: Take a peek into @INL’s history, spanning decades of research and discovery.
