🇧🇩 Bangladesh's garment workers have been in the streets for 5 days, asking for $242 a month. They make around $100 right now, under a pay scale set back in 2023, while food, rent and transport costs keep climbing. Hundreds of factories have shut, protesters have blocked highways near Dhaka, and police have answered with tear gas and sound grenades. These are the 4 million people behind more than 80% of Bangladesh's exports, sewing for H&M, Zara and Walmart. A wage board agreed yesterday to roll out a new pay scale from December, but still hasn't said how much. Some of the world’s biggest fashion brands run on their work. The least they deserve is a wage they can actually live on. Source: Reuters / Writer: Julie teapaw.org/RT_on_X/status/2118252…

A Handshake with Criminals Is Not Diplomacy. Shaking hands with those responsible for killing civilians, bombing schools and hospitals, and committing atrocities is not a gesture of peace. It risks legitimizing impunity. #Myanmar #Accountability #NoToImpunity

The Burmese Junta’s increased aggression against the KNU is a desperate attempt to maintain control over the long sprawling border between Thailand and Myanmar. Ethnic rebel territories serve as a transit hub for minerals to reach Thailand. The Burmese Junta seeks to cut off trade relations between KNU and Thailand, and also regain control of mining zones that can be used to entice the United States.

🇸🇦🇾🇪 Saudi Arabia asked the Houthis what it would take to stop the attacks. They came back with a $51 BILLION invoice. The Houthis reportedly say that's the bill for years of Saudi airstrikes and a long blockade. On top of the cash, they want Riyadh to officially recognize them as Yemen's rulers. They have the leverage to ask. In October they hit Saudi airports and Aramco facilities almost daily, and their fighters are now about 50 miles from Aden, closer than at any point since 2015. Help isn't coming either. The UAE walked away from the fight last December, Pakistan won't join strikes inside Yemen, and Washington has declined to step in. Pay up and the Houthis learn that every missile comes with an invoice. Refuse and the missiles keep coming. Between a rock and a hard place doesn't begin to cover it. Source: WSJ / Writer: Julie

Thailand bans political handbook edited by exiled scholar Thai police have banned the import of Routledge Handbook of Contemporary Thailand, Second Edition, edited by exiled Thai academic Pavin Chachavalpongpun, citing threats to national security and public order. Anyone importing the book for distribution could face up to three years in prison or a 60,000-baht fine. Pavin mocked the decision, arguing that banning books in the internet age would only boost publicity and sales. The 474-page handbook features 37 chapters contributed by 45 scholars.
