We want to learn about current practice for antibiotic duration for Community Acquired Pneumonia hospital admissions, and the shortest duration people would feel comfortable with. Please can you fill out this short survey monkey poll? Thank you! bit.ly/Short-Course-Antibiot…

Agree, ITU nurses in particular are so close to their specific patients in their work and meticulously caring by vocation the stress must be huge and deeply felt. They should be better rewarded to reflect it.
This 👇 But it’s not just doctors - nursing and AHP staff hugely affected too

Many thanks to @pssld_official and @helpatologist for the opportunity to present at their 15th Annual Congress, on the ICU management of #ACLF. While the APASL, EASL & AASLD definitions differ, ICU management should be the same for all cohorts when organ failures ensue

1/13 Why does adrenal insufficiency (particularly adrenal crisis) lead to hypotension? I don't think of glucocorticoids as "pressors" and yet when they're lacking patients are at great risk for shock. Let's have a look.

Given that we work with our fabulous trainees every day, I suppose we have to ask: If 72% have failed, are we training them well (in my view, we are), are they good enough (in my view, the majority are) or is there a problem with the exam? I'll leave you to decide
Joint statement from the Faculty and @RCoANews following the release of the FFICM OSCE/SOE examination results yesterday. Once again, our sincere apologies to all concerned for the delay and confusion caused. ficm.ac.uk/statement-followi…

The RECOVERY Data Monitoring Committee reviewed data on patients randomised to convalescent plasma vs. usual care. The preliminary analysis based on 10,406 randomised patients with 1873 reported deaths shows no significant difference in the primary endpoint of 28-day mortality.

Thoughts 1/2 through my COVID itu week: 1)the nurses and junior drs are doing truly incredible work in hugely difficult circumstances 👏 2)we are properly surging again now, feels just like March 3)high community rate is reflected in many critically ill with incidental covid

4) people are tired. The emotional and physical reserve we burnt in the first wave isn't there. I'm in awe of the resilience people are showing 5) big thanks to the @Bham_Childrens nurses volunteering in adult itu! 6) the nurses and junior drs are doing a truly incredible job 👏

We absolutely need to use this emerging evidence in updating PPE guidelines.

Latest paper from RECOVERY trial: In patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19, lopinavir–ritonavir did not reduce 28-day mortality, duration of hospital stay, or risk of progressing to invasive mechanical ventilation or death. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Agree with this. Easy to fall into therapeutic nihilism. When a patient sees say 20% chance of survival on itu as worth it and we "experts" see 80% mortality as too much of a burden maybe we are more subconsciously protecting ourselves... @ICUdecisions

Note the correction to the article though! "The contrast between _untreated_ (nearly 100%) and _treated_ (60–80%) mortality is the reason ICUs exist.”"
Opportunity to join the great multispecialty @qehbham and @uhbtrust consultant Acute Medicine team. Either as pure AIM or 50/50 with another GIM specialty jobs.nhs.uk/xi/vacancy/91611…
