Someone: So, what really do you do all day? Me: Well, I read. I read carefully, and then I write carefully. And if I'm careful enough, I help someone. When I can't help, it's hard. When I do, it feels really good. That's about it. That's law work. #lawwork – at Boston, MA

If AI hallucination concerns are driving disclosure requirements, why not require disclosure of research assistants, librarians, peers, workshop attendees, and all who provided content or input? In many court incidents, others provided the AI hallucinations to the lead author. The same risk exists for law review articles. The VLR policy requires disclosure of the use of AI for "research (e.g. identifying relevant cases)." It directs authors to "err on the side of disclosure." Thus, even basic computer-based research must be disclosed. 😱🤯 Nearly every author will need to meticulously log, audit, and disclose computer usage in the research, writing, and editing process. Authors are not going to affirm a disclosure based on their memory of how they, research assistants, and others used computers, are they? IMO, disclosure requirements serve no legitimate purpose. The final product that the author submitted either satisfies the standards for research or it does not. But if folks argue that disclosure serves a purpose, why not full disclosure? One positive result of these law journal AI disclosure policies will hopefully be that law professors subject to them will reflect on how their own AI bans and disclosure policies torment, burden, and impede students and the generation of knowledge.

Yes. This. 100%. I teach this in my law school classes. Law students virtually never think of themselves as potential entrepreneurs- in or out of law. Once you open their eyes, their energy shifts. But the law school culture bites hard. And often has a chilling effect.
I’ve spent a ton of time at top universities and here’s what I've noticed: The freshman walking in the door at @MIT, @Harvard, @TuftsUniversity, @Princeton, @Stanford, etc. are nearly identical. Same SAT scores, same drive, same raw talent. But the fraction that come out the other side and start a company? Wildly different. Stanford is way out in front. Princeton is shockingly far behind. When I ask them why, the answer is almost always the same: "I went down this path because someone two years ahead of me did it. I watched them, I learned from them, and I did what they did." It's a culture thing, and it propagates like wildfire. All you need is a small hand full of breakout success stories and that will inspire dozens of others to follow suit. If you're a student at a school that doesn't have entrepreneurial culture yet, you have a massive opportunity to be the trailblazer who kickstarts it.

AI learning from Star Trek… Context rot happens when LLMs get too much info leading to errors, hallucinations Rewatching Voyager s6e9, where Seven started concocting a range of conspiracies, the Dr's diagnosis sounded familiar... The show was always way ahead of its time🖖

If your firm’s AI doesn’t understand context, it doesn’t understand your work. DeepJudge connects what your lawyers know - clauses, names, concepts, meaning - into one unified view. Know what your firm knows → deepjudge.ai/whitepaper/impl…
