Kids will be challenged to design, build, and test their own gravity-powered roller coasters—all while communicating in English! 🛠️🧪 It was a real pleasure meeting such a diverse and enthusiastic group of teachers and curriculum developers working on STEAM education, project-based learning, non-cognitive skills, and language development. 今日は東京学芸大こども未来研究所で、Groovy Lab in a Boxを活用した共同研究の撮影でした！🎥✨ 2回目の撮影も無事終了！🙌 今回は、ワクワクするビー玉のジェットコースターを作りました！🎢🔧 自分のアイデアを形にする楽しさ、試行錯誤から生まれる発見。 この取り組みが、たくさんの子どもたちの夢や、大きなアイデアを実現するきっかけになれば嬉しいです！💡🚀 詳しい内容はまだお見せできませんが、今後の展開をお楽しみに！😊 #STEAM教育 That’s a wrap! 🎬✨ Today we completed our second day of filming with the Tokyo Gakugei Univ. 🎢 ジェットコースターを作ろう！ こちらは僕が作ったマーブルラン・ジェットコースター！ このチャレンジの面白いところは、試行錯誤のサイクルがとても速いこと。 ビー玉を転がす → うまくいく？失敗する？ → 結果を観察 → すぐ改良して、もう一度！ 実験そのものが楽しくて、毎回の結果が「次に何を変える？」のヒントになります🔧 まさに本物のジェットコースターエンジニアのように、作って、試して、改良する！ 11/21（土）のTOKYO GLOBAL GATEWAY 1DAYチャレンジでは、英語を使いながらこのエンジニアリングに挑戦します🌏✨ #STEAM教育 Here’s a look at my marble-run roller coaster! 🎢 I love this open-ended engineering challenge because the trial-and-error cycle is so fast. 福岡へ短い出張！✈️ 今回は、福岡雙葉小学校 グローバル探究コースの3年生のみなさんにお招きいただき、特別STEAMワークショップを行いました！🔧✨ 丘の上にある、とても素敵な学校。到着すると子どもたちが温かく迎えてくれて、英語で一生懸命話しかけてくれたり、ワークショップの準備まで手伝ってくれたりしました😊 今回挑戦してもらったのは、僕の大好きなオープンエンドのエンジニアリングチャレンジ。 「遠くまで飛ばせる装置を作ろう！」🚀 正解も、決まった作り方もありません。 チャレンジを伝えると、子どもたちはすぐに手を動かし始めました。 僕たちはその創造のプロセスを見取りながらサポート。子どもたちは自分のアイデアを形にして、飛ばして、測って、改良して、また挑戦！ 最後には、自分たちのアイデアや工夫を友達に英語で伝えることにも挑戦しました👏 福岡雙葉小学校には「グローバル探究コース」と「グローバルコミュニケーションコース」があり、探究と英語をそれぞれ大切にしながらつなげていく、とても興味深い取り組みだと感じました。 今回だけで終わらず、これから一緒にできることがたくさんありそうで楽しみです！ 先生方、スタッフのみなさま、そして3年生のみんな、温かく迎えてくださりありがとうございました！😊 #STEAM教育 A quick trip to Fukuoka! ✈️ We were invited to Fukuoka Futaba Elementary School for a special STEAM workshop with third-grade students in their Global Inquiry Course. 🔧✨ It’s a wonderful school on a beautiful little hillside campus, and the students made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Many tried to speak with me in English—and even jumped in to help me set up the room! For the workshop, I gave them one of my favorite open-ended engineering challenges: Build something that can launch an object FAR! 🚀 No instructions. No single correct solution. They immediately got to work. As we observed and supported their creative process, ideas quickly began taking shape. Students built, tested, measured, iterated, and learned from one another—then challenged themselves to share their ideas and improvements with their friends in English. Fukuoka Futaba has both a Global Inquiry Course and a Global Communication Course, an interesting approach with lots of potential connections between inquiry, engineering, and authentic communication. I hope this was only the beginning of what we can explore together! このモーターたちが何になるかというと…Groovy Bots！ 🤖✨ 「Myロボット工場」の開発は、実はかなり面白いローカライズ作業でした。 アメリカ版には、日本では手に入りにくいベリー用のプラスチック容器などが使われていたので、日本で安定して調達できる材料に変更。 さらに、うまく動かないことがあった仕組みも見直して、小さな子でも自分の力で完成させやすいように改良しました。 そして僕のもう一つの不満は…… かわいさが足りない！😂 ということで、顔も追加。ロボットに個性が出ました🤖💕 日本向け教材開発は、ただ翻訳するだけじゃない。 手に入る材料、作りやすさ、動作の安定性、そして「作りたい！」と思える楽しさまでデザインする。 そこが面白い！ #STEAM教育 Remember those 500 DC motors? ⚙️ Here’s what some of them will become: Groovy Bots! 🤖 Localizing this kit for Japan was an interesting design challenge. The American version used components that aren't readily available here, including the plastic mesh berry containers commonly found in U.S. grocery stores. Another mechanism wasn't as reliable as I wanted. So we redesigned around materials we can source consistently in Japan and made the build reliable and simple enough for young children to complete themselves. And my final complaint about the original? It wasn't nearly cute enough. 😂 So we gave our bots faces - and a little more personality! Localization isn't just translation. It's redesigning the experience for the materials, children, and context where it will actually be used. That's one of my favorite parts of curriculum development. 🔧 @GroovyLab_JP

スーパーボールスピナー、片方をピンポン玉にしたらどうなる？🏓🌀 同じスーパーボール2個ではなく、片方だけ軽いピンポン玉に変えて回してみると… あれ！？👀 重いスーパーボールは中心に近く、軽いピンポン玉は大きく外側を回ります。 「1つだけ変える」と、違いが見えてくる！ 🔎 次は何を変える？ ・ピンポン玉2個なら？ ・ピンポン玉を少し重くしたら？ ・違う重さのボールなら？ ・回す前に、どっちが大きく回るか予想できる？ What happens if we change just ONE ball in our superball spinner? 🌀 The heavier superball stays closer to the center, while the lighter ping-pong ball swings much farther out. What other combinations could we test? #おうち実験

これがDCモーター500個です！😂⚙️ この小さなモーターたちは、Groovy Lab in a Box「Myロボット工場」へ。 まずは手持ち扇風機を作って、電気→動きへの変化を発見。 次は、ペンを足にしたブルブル動くロボットに挑戦！ そして最後は、自分で考えたオリジナルのモーター工作を設計→製作→実験→改良します🤖✨ 教材開発の裏側では、モーターを探して、メーカーに連絡して、サンプルを取り寄せて、テストして……OKなら500個発注！ 子どもたちの「作ってみたい！」のために、まず僕が試します😂 教材開発 for the win! 🔧 #STEAM教育 This is what 500 DC motors looks like! 😂⚙️ These cute little guys are headed for the Groovy Lab in a Box “My Robot Factory” kit. Kids will first explore electricity and motion by making a handheld fan, then build a wiggling bot with markers for feet. Finally, they’ll plan, build, test, and improve their own original motorized robot creations! 🤖 Behind the scenes, part of curriculum development means finding a motor supplier, contacting them, getting samples, testing them…and when everything checks out, ordering 500 at a time.
