#ISRO: NVS 04 is about five months away and NVS 05 about ten, as per ISRO CHIEF Narayanan. that is the whole replacement pipeline. a parliamentary committee put all three launches within 15 to 18 months, and NVS 05 is also the one that might finally fly with all indigenous clocks
this is what a pyrovalve actually looks like. the two Y arms at the top are the initiator chambers, the yellow bands. a charge fires, drives a piston, shears the barrier and the line opens. it is stamped PV NC, pyrovalve normally closed. this one flew on the Mars sky crane.
#ISRO chief Narayanan on valves: to ensure mission reliability and bypass previous technical hurdles, the satellite was flown with three pyro valves already open. not a small call. cleared by a national committee under former chairman Kiran Kumar after vibration and shock testing

GSLV did exactly what it was built to do. It left the satellite in a transfer orbit, a long thin oval, on purpose. Lifting it all the way to a circle in one shot would need a much bigger rocket, so the satellite carries the extra fuel and finishes the climb itself.
ISRO: NVS-03 satellite was successfully injected into 170.3 km x 38080 km orbit by GSLV Launch vehicle on October 30, 2026 at 23.51 hrs.
NVS-03 is the third satellite in next generation navigation satellite system envisaged for providing continuity of navigation services for IRNSS series. The satellite carries indigenous atomic clock along with the procured clocks. It also includes L1 signal in addition to L5 and S band signals with coverage over Indian land mass and a region extending 1500 km around Indian geopolitical boundary.
The planned first orbit manoeuvre, with a LAM engine burn duration of 2174.8 seconds, has been successfully completed on October 31, 2026 at 16:48 hrs. The estimated orbit subsequent to manoeuvre is 5477.6 km x 37833.4 km. The satellite health is normal.
Further, in the coming days, orbit manoeuvres are planned to eventually place NVS-03 in GSO (111.75o East orbital slot). #NVS03 #ISRO #GSLV #NavIC #OrbitRaising

The climbing is done by a small engine on the satellite. Yesterday it fired for 36 minutes without stopping and pushed the low point up from 170 km to 5478 km. It will do that a few more times until the oval becomes a circle.
