Everyone’s happy about the Cavs and I won’t be over the Guardians until the lockout is over.

Stephen Vogt: "I'm coming back."
Carl Willis, too.
Vogt discusses the challenges of living apart from his family (who reside an hour outside of Seattle, where the Mariners are seeking a new manager), but explains why "I'll be in Cleveland":

Now that it's off-season mode, who are y'all hoping we go out and get via trade/contract?
Who's on your trade table?

This Guardians loss hurts more than usual because it felt like they were on an even playing field for the first time in a while
Got a gift today for an early birthday present, and boy is it fitting.
Triple shot rum & coke while we see how many innings Gavin can give us tonight.

Go sign another 1 or 2 bats and put the pressure on the team to perform.
Go get 1 or 2 quality starters and another reliever
Or sit on your hands till March again either/or.

Objective outlook on this season⬇️
Positive takeaways from the 2026 Guardians:
- Delauter's health overall
- Bazzana's debut
- Messick
- Gavin solidifying the ace spot
- Kwan proved he'll always find a way
- Jose can play October baseball sometimes
- Bailey/Hedgie are serviceable
- Arias is somewhere in space
- Bo Naylor isn't a Guardian
- Not the bottom offensive outfield
- Guardians proved there's a chance they make moves in the offseason/deadline
- Still have young guys that will make an impact like Ralphy, Genao, etc.
- Halpin proved he can play
- Bullpen is generally a strength and if Cade disappears we've proven we can reprint a top 3 closer
- If Bibee figures it out next year you have one of the most solid 1-4 rotations
Negative takeaways from the 2026 Guardians:
- Offense will continue to be a playoff curse until it somehow isn't
- Rocchio is just short-haired Arias
- Team has to go 100% to make the postseason every year, which exhausts our roster come October. Got to create separation
- The rest of the AL Central is only getting better. Our window may not be closed, but next year isn't guaranteed.
- Jose's another year older. Father time is undefeated at some point.
- If Bibee doesn't figure it out, it's a huge financial blunder.
- Angel Martinez & Bazzana need to learn from the playoff lights.
- Most of the hitting is too streaky to be reliable for October.
Overall takeaway: The Guardians are about 2-3 pieces away (again) from being a contender. There's a 50/50 shot they're back in this same position next year, and a 50/50 shot they only get regular season baseball.
The Guardians have very, very quickly turned into the Cavs for me now: Regular season means absolutely nothing, and until you prove you can go all the way, you can't go all the way.
Straight up. I tried being grateful and being a good sport for so long. I'd give other teams their flowers when it wasn't meant to be for us.
Fuck. Alllllllllllllllllllll of that. Never again. The nice guys never win is the lesson of 2026

Everyone hates us and makes fun of us. Year after year after year. Analysts had us being in last place before the season started. Its gonna happen again. They give no respect to us at all. Ever

Figured I’d save my longest essay for last…
I will have plenty more to say this offseason, but there is one underlying thought I keep coming back to.
A lot of Guardians fans will say “we weren’t supposed to be here.” I’m sure some national media will say that too.
I’ll never tell anyone how to feel, but I’m personally tired of that sentiment. Is it fun to defy the preseason odds every year and play deep into October? Of course. But the organization can’t keep treating that as the barometer for success.
I want to see Cleveland have a real chance to win the World Series.
In 2022 we watched the youngest team in baseball make the playoffs and give the Yankees a fight. But they had no chance to win it all. It was the same story in 2024. Fun team. Won a series. But overmatched against a true contender.
Then in 2025 and 2026 we saw magical late-season turnarounds. This year added an ALDS win we’ll remember for a long time. I’m thankful for all of that.
But if the prevailing sentiment at the end is we should just be happy to get this far, what was it all for?
I love the journey. I watch all 162 and truly appreciate the joy this team brings me every year. Winning matters and this organization does a lot of it.
But above all, I want to see my favorite team win the World Series. And that hasn’t been a real possibility since 2017.
Nobody is asking Cleveland to spend like New York or LA. But the payroll difference between the Rays and Guardians is $21 million.
Do you know how much of an impact $21 million can have when spent properly? Imagine how differently this series could have played out if the Guardians spent that much on starting pitching. Or a better cleanup hitter than Jo Adell.
Tampa Bay signed Nick Martinez for $13 million last offseason.
I was happy the front office bought at the trade deadline. Those players made an impact. But they were also available for lower-tier prospects for a reason. And if you aren’t gonna spend in free agency OR part with better prospects in trades, then your external additions will almost always be mediocre.
We’ll see what happens with MLB this winter. But whatever way it goes, I hope the Guardians stop being content with overachieving.
It won't. I'm grateful for him and I'll love the years he's chosen to be here.
But its not going to happen.

idk man. You don’t always get a next year and you can only look back fondly on the good moments so many times. I just want something to change
