The over-50s need 'Joe Wicks-style' exercise classes on TV, a charity has said, amid data revealing that a third of older people have lost strength during pandemic. @thebodycoach @Ageing_Better @Sport_England

Televised activity classes, designed with the needs of over 50s in mind, would reach many people in this age group who have struggled to stay active over the past year, particularly those who are less likely to access this kind of content online.
New figures show that over a third of over 55s have seen their strength decline since the COVID-19 outbreak, and nearly 40% are doing less exercise than last year.
Along with @MrMotivator we are calling for action to support over 50s to keep active.

Reflecting on fascinating webinar on Monday around the role of media in intergenerational practices & how it creates a narrative around ageism... One suggestion is to change the editors code of journalism to make age a protected characteristic. Fully agree!

Everyone at Age UK is incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Doris Hobday, one of the much-loved Tipton Twins.
Doris and her twin Lilian brought joy to us all with their positive and humorous outlook on life. Our thoughts go to Lilian and her family at this time. 💜

Images, like language, shape the way we think about old age and ageing. Given so many more of us are living longer, it’s time we started using more realistic. We hope this library will be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to depict the diversity of later life.
📣 AGE-POSITIVE LIBRARY LAUNCHED 📣
We have launched a free library of positive and realistic images of people aged 50 and over.
The images, which depict older people in non-stereotypical ways, are available for download and free to use.
