Can the intestine remember a previous injury?
We show that intestinal injury leaves a lasting transcriptional and epigenetic imprint that primes the tissue for enhanced regeneration.

Using sc-multiome profiling, we simultaneously mapped gene expression and chromatin accessibility.
We identified two complementary layers of regenerative memory: an IFNγ dependent inflammatory memory and a plasticity-associated memory established through dedifferentiation.
Previous injury does not simply reset the intestine to its original state. It reshapes its molecular state and influences how it responds to future damage.
