Strengthening Gujarat–New Zealand Ties | Auckland 🇮🇳🇳🇿
The Vibrant Gujarat delegation, led by Hon’ble Minister Shri @irushikeshpatel , participated in an interaction with the Indian diaspora, investors and business leaders at the Consulate General of India (CGI), Auckland, on 1 November 2026.
The interaction was hosted in the presence of Her Excellency Ms. Muanpuii Saiawi, High Commissioner of India to New Zealand, and Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Auckland, along with community leaders and entrepreneurs. The gathering was coordinated by Shri Hardik Desai, Vibrant Gujarat Coordinator for New Zealand.
Discussions centred on Gujarat’s investor-friendly industrial policies, investment incentives and emerging opportunities across agriculture, dairy, design and technology. The delegation highlighted Gujarat’s transparent policy framework, strong industrial ecosystem and commitment to facilitating new investments.
The interaction also underscored the potential to deepen bilateral trade, investment and knowledge exchange, particularly in the context of the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement initiative.
Hon’ble Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel invited the Indian diaspora and New Zealand’s business community to explore opportunities in Gujarat and participate in the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, scheduled for 10–12 January 2027 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.
The engagement reaffirmed the Indian diaspora’s role as a vital bridge in strengthening Gujarat–New Zealand economic partnerships and advancing the vision of Vibrant Gujarat 2027 — “Viksit Gujarat, Shaping Global Future.”

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, has approved ₹14,500 crore Viability Gap Funding for 92 GWh of grid-scale energy storage, including battery and pumped storage, with a strong push for made-in-India batteries.
For Gujarat, a frontrunner in solar and wind energy, storage is the bridge between abundant green power and reliable round-the-clock supply. This decision will add new strength to our clean energy journey and open fresh avenues for battery manufacturing.

The Vibrant Gujarat delegation, led by Hon’ble Minister Shri @irushikeshpatel , visited Contact Energy’s grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility in New Zealand to gain insights into the country’s renewable energy ecosystem and innovative energy storage solutions.
New Zealand has a distinctive position in the global energy landscape, with approximately 92% of its electricity generation coming from renewable sources. This strong renewable-energy base reduces exposure to volatility in international fossil fuel markets and supports a cleaner, more resilient power system.
Contact Energy, which accounts for approximately 20% of New Zealand’s electricity generation, is strengthening grid reliability through large-scale battery storage. Its Glenbrook Ohurua project integrates battery technology to store electricity and respond to peak demand, helping manage fluctuations in power prices and balance supply and demand.
The facility offers valuable insights into the role of grid-scale energy storage in enhancing renewable-energy integration, improving grid flexibility and strengthening energy security.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of cooperation and knowledge exchange relevant to Gujarat’s clean energy ambitions, including renewable-energy integration, battery storage infrastructure and the development of a resilient, future-ready power ecosystem.
