Make God part of your relationship
Couples who survive difficult seasons are not necessarily those who never argue or have problems. They are often the ones who make God the centre of their relationship.
Making God part of your marriage doesn't mean you will never disagree or face challenges. It means you both learn to depend on Him and follow His teachings in your daily lives.
It means praying together, studying the Bible, forgiving each other, being honest, showing patience, and treating each other with love and respect.
When challenges come, you are not left to depend on your own strength alone. You have God to turn to and His Word to guide your decisions.
Your spouse is not expected to meet all your needs or make you happy all the time. Both of you need God to help you build a healthy marriage.
Putting God at the centre does not guarantee a trouble free marriage, but it gives you a strong foundation to face life's challenges together.
A marriage built with God at the centre has a foundation stronger than feelings alone.

Builder to builder.
• Guard the first hour. It sets the speed for the whole day.
• Finish before you polish. Done and imperfect teaches you more than perfect in a drawer.
• Sell the problem you solved for yourself. That's where your proof lives.
• Keep your body in the plan. A tired builder makes expensive decisions.
• Judge the week, not the day. One bad day is noise.

Mrs. Okafor got married in 2003 in Enugu. She and her husband, Mr. Okafor, were very close. They used to gist till 1am. They used to go out every Friday.
Then the children came. Three of them.
Mrs. Okafor changed everything.
Her husband would come home from work and say, "Honey, how are you?" She would say, "Don't disturb me, I am feeding the baby."
He would say, "Let's go out this weekend." She would say, "We can't. The children have lesson. The children need this. The children need that."
Every money went to the children. Every decision was about the children. Every night, she slept in the children's room because the children wanted her there. Her husband slept alone for 10 years.
Mr. Okafor complained once. He said, "You have forgotten me."
Mrs. Okafor shouted, "Are you competing with your own children? A good mother puts her children first! My children are my life!"
He went quiet and stopped complaining.
The children grew up. The first one got admission to university in UK in 2021. The second one got married in 2023 and moved to Canada. The last one left for Lagos in 2024 to start work.
The house became empty.
Mrs. Okafor came back to the sitting room one night and looked at her husband. She did not know him again.
They had nothing to talk about. They had no jokes. They had no friendship. She had spent 20 years building her children, and 0 years building her marriage.
Last month, she told her sister, "My children have left. My husband is a stranger. I am lonely in my own house."
Her sister told her, "You raised your children to leave. But you forgot to keep the man that was supposed to stay."

My sister-in-law called me one day crying that her husband had abandoned her with three children and she had nowhere to turn.
Out of pity, I allowed her to move into my boys’ quarters temporarily and even started feeding her and the children.
Six months later, I told her I needed the room because someone was coming to stay.
Do you know what she told me?
She said I was heartless for asking her to leave when she had nowhere to go.
I was shocked.
But the most annoying part was when she told other family members that I was using her difficult situation to oppress her.
The same person I was feeding and accommodating had turned me into an enemy.
