Fight stage 3: contact your local electeds. That means call your council member and ask to speak with the Constituent Liaison. Tell them you’d like them to reach out to your landlord about a building wide issue (so it’s not just you vs. landlord, its tenants vs. landlord).

Fight stage 2: send a letter/email to your landlord. You’ve probably been texting or calling. Good to put your request in writing—INCLUDING asking for a rent abatement.

Fight stage 1: when you call 311 and the inspector comes, TURN OFF THE SPACE HEATER/OVEN well before they get there! The room needs to be ice cold. Why? Because the inspectors simply take the room temp. Even if radiator’s ice cold, if room is 70, they may not list “no heat.”

"To use those kinds of sites on an emergency basis is not a reason to go to the court and say we should be relieved of all obligations under the right to shelter as it has existed for 40-plus years," said @LegalAidNYC representative @JoshGoldfein.
The state has yet to open any of its upstate assets to help with emergency housing, though the city has already contracted privately with hotels. specne.ws/S2guJ3

The right to shelter is a critical part of our safety net, a life saver for tens of thousands of people each year. Rolling it back will result in some of our city's most vulnerable being pushed away and onto the streets. This is unacceptable. @LegalAidNYC

RTC WORKS! When tenants' Right to Counsel is upheld, landlords sue tenants less, evictions plummet, and nearly EVERYONE who has the Right to Counsel remains in their homes. NOW ALL OF THAT IS AT RISK. Join us 5/31 at 9:30am in front of BX or BK housing court to fight back!
