Hugely proud of @tivonnehowe of @LancsUniLEC for passing her PhD viva today, on CO2 and volatiles in Lesser Antilles volcanic systems. TiVonne funded by Government of Montserrat & well on way to becoming first female volcanologist from the island! @UKinMontserrat @mvoms – at Bailrigg, England
Super proud of my son Alec (no. 11, right) and all the @DallamSchool U16 boys football team for winning the Cumbria County Cup today 💥👏🏼⚽ – at Lancaster, England
Almost all CO2 in melt inclusions is hidden in bubbles. TiVonne used Raman spectroscopy and ion microprobe analysis to provide the first measurement of total magmatic CO2 for Soufriere Hills #Volcano. Her results reveal transcrustal magma storage and quantify CO2 fluxes.
Congrats to @LancsUniLEC PhD student @tivonnehowe for publishing her first paper, on magmatic CO2 and storage depths at her volcano, Soufriere Hills, Montserrat. New insights into the depth of magma storage and CO2 systematics: frontiersin.org/journals/ear…
Over on #BlueSky I'm posting about our fantastic @LancasterUni #Volcanology #Masters students graduating and more bsky.app/profile/htuffen.bsk… – at Lancaster, England
Hands down the best #northernlights #Auroraborealis I've ever seen from the UK - this was #Lancaster just after midnight – at Lancaster, England
New paper led by @Volcannabelle uses microtextures & volatiles in #obsidian from #Krafla, #Iceland to reveal how silicic lava is produced (from pyroclasts) and how silicic fissure eruptions focus. Congrats to the team inc @WadsworthFabian and @hollyeunwin, & thanks @landsvirkjun!
🚨 I published a paper today! 🚨
We found unambiguous evidence for the formation of silicic lava by pyroclast sintering.

Thanks 🌋 team!

#Auroraborealis above our house in #Lancaster at 0130 tonight. The best I've ever seen from the UK, what a treat! #aurora #solarstorm
Fractures control subsurface fluid flow. Anthony Lamur of @LMU_Volc presented important new experimental and modelling results to explore fracture influence on permeability to the @KMT_Project symposium.
Understanding the mechanical behaviour of geothermal reservoir rocks underpins the whole @KMT_Project. Top presentation from @RonSukiRon showcasing PhD work by Gudjón Eggertsson and more. Conclusion: we must retrieve deep samples from close to the 2.1 km magma body!
