The COVID effect is definitely unique, however; 1. The system allows choice of investment (switching) 2. Choice of fund However unlikely, the possibility of a “run” is still present and should be incorporated somewhere within the risk management program.
Replying to @vynokur
COVID induced super withdrawals are a result of unprecedented government policy intervention. It is not a failure of investment process. It could not and should not have been modelled. For the record, I’m not a conflicted supporter. We have no investments from Hostplus.

Why SMSFs need government help too afr.com/wealth/personal-fina… - am I reading this correctly? The government needs to support a couple with $1.2m in super who don't want to 'dip into their savings'? 'Retirement income' involves regular consumption of savings. That's what they're for!

Super is a long-term game. Early release should be severely restricted, but COVID-19 announcement today is justified. But, Govt needs to look out for liquidity pressures. Give the system time to pay. I think there are liquidity issues lurking. Hope I’m wrong. #Covid_19australia

Social distancing isn’t about u personally.Saying “I’ll be fine even if I get it!” or “I’m happy to take the risk” isn’t helpful. It’s about reducing all possible opportunities for virus spread which will in turn save the elderly +vulnerable #doitforyourgranny #covid #COVID19Aus

Not again! How many free kicks can the super industry get? This was, I might remind everyone, first recommended in mid 2010 after a very compelling submission from @MstarAus pointing out how Australia lagged behind many other comparable jurisdictions - it remains a good idea.
