So great to see them both reconcile. Their beef goes back to the early 90s
Will Smith's TV aunt was making about $250,000 a year. In 1993, she lost all of it. Will went on the radio and said she'd gone "from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing."
She had a newborn baby at home. She didn't speak to him for 27 years.
In the video below, Janet Hubert finally says it to his face: "You took all that away from me with your words."
In 1993, she was offered a new contract. About two and a half months of work a year, less money, and no other jobs allowed.
Her husband was out of work. She says the marriage was abusive. She said no.
The new season opened with a joke. Jazz said something was different about Aunt Viv since she had the baby.
On that Atlanta radio show, Will added: "She's mad now, but she's been mad all along."
The word that followed her was "difficult." For a Black woman in Hollywood, she says, it's "the kiss of death." She says she lost "everything. Reputation, everything."
The case for Will: he was in his early 20s, carrying his first show. The contract came from the producers, not from him. And she turned it down.
27 years later, he told her: "The person I want to be is someone who protects you, not someone that unleashes dogs on you."
He went on to make $20 million per movie. She waited 28 years for her next recurring TV role.
So did Will Smith ruin Aunt Viv's career, or did she ruin it herself?

This is President John of Ghana 🇬🇭.
He is listing the ridiculous conditions USA gave them.
Anyways, Nigeria already accepted.
Shouldn't Giannis be on this graphic too? Pretty sure he led the Bucks in those stat categories in 2021 when they won

🚨 Google lost power in London this morning and Revolut, a bank with 80 million customers, went down with it.
I've spent the morning reading what Revolut users went through. It's wild.
People stranded at petrol stations, unable to pay for fuel or a taxi to the airport.
One traveller couldn't get out of a train station in Japan.
A 71-year-old woman stood at a supermarket till for an hour. Her kid had to drive 30km to bring her cash.
Card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals, currency exchange, share trading. All down.
Revolut's statement said "all our customers' money and data are safe."
Safe. You just can't touch it.
Google's explanation so far is a "power event" in one zone of its London cloud region. Its advice to affected customers was to move their workloads to another zone or region "if feasible."
Must be nice. Revolut customers couldn't even move £10.
In July the UK government put Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft and Oracle under direct Bank of England oversight, because one outage at any of them could shake the entire financial system.
12 days ago the Bank of England ran a drill with the UK's 38 biggest banks and market operators. The scenario they practised was a global cloud outage.
And exactly one year ago today, AWS went down and took Lloyds and Halifax with it.
Same date. Different cloud. Lloyds was having problems again this morning.
Revolut spent five years earning a UK banking licence.
Bitcoin has been running for almost 18 years. It doesn't have a London region.

@KeyAndPeele
Does nobody in the ad agency responsible for that new Alexa advert own a dog? They put the Ring doorbell chime in it so every time the ad plays my dog thinks someone's at the door and starts barking. I can't be the only one going through this

When you sell to Bending Spoons, most of your team will be promptly laid off.
This may be capitalism and may be necessary for Bending Spoons to hit its 25%+ unlevered IRR goals.
But certainly, most of Airtable and Miro employees losing their jobs is a bitter pill to swallow.
👉 Airtable had 935 employees when it signed. The entire Bending Spoons core team is smaller than that.
Today we’re laying off a large part of the Airtable team.
This is not a reflection of their work but a reflection of our deep belief that small teams ship more and better.
For Airtable, better is about to look like:
- A new Core team shipping your top requests monthly (already 30+ shipped in 3 weeks)
- Upgraded Omni, Airtable Canvas, a stronger MCP, and BYO agents, coming soon
- New Performance and Infra teams focusing on speeding up bases and increasing limits on records, fields, and syncs
To everyone leaving: thank you. If you’re hiring, these are excellent people and worth a call.
