This is actually a condescending view of working-class people. I grew up in a working-class immigrant family and we ate at Red Lobster and The Cheesecake Factory for "fancy nights out." But even we understood that the White House should not look like the inside of a Red Lobster. Working-class people are not culturally illiterate just because their experiences are shaped by their limited means.
It's not only gaudy, it's deliberately over-the-top so. That's part of the appeal.

New: Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General.
The US has encouraged Orbán to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea of a joint U.S.-Russia-China candidacy.

Well, that's two good election results this weekend. Glad the repugnant Bolsonoro family got rejected.

Nancy Pelosi, who is regularly hammered for her perceived insider trading, has made 213 total trades since 2014. Trump exceeded that number in a single day, which just happened to precede his own tariffs announcement. My latest on the mind boggling self-enrichment:

As his policies bankrupt them, Trump-supporting farmers fully embrace socialism. But only if it’s for them.
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.
I know the ratings won't be there and the media will whine but ... if y'all ain't watchin', you're missing a fun World Series.
Seems like these are things Paxton could have raised in, you know, a debate. Guess he was too busy traveling on the taxpayer dime with his mistress.
Perigee of 263 km, apogee 267 today. Falling faster than Deshaun Waton's passer rating.

3/ It's an irreversible move, so the mission is over. Our current altitude is 274 km and falling fast. We expect re-entry in early November. It's sad, but our legacy stands for itself.
More footage has come out. Five officers run into the parking lot w/ guns drawn over a supposed shoplifting. Position themselves in harm's way. She misses them but they open fire anyway. No wonder authorities tried to bury the footage.
Newly released footage shows the moments leading up to a Mississippi police officer fatally shooting 1-year-old Kohen Wiley outside a Walmart in Senatobia in June.
Officers were initially responding to reports of a man sexually harassing customers when their attention turned to two women accused of shoplifting, an allegation the women deny. An officer fired into their vehicle as it attempted to drive away, killing the child.
Mississippi's attorney general declined to pursue criminal charges against the officer, but Wiley's family disputes the decision and is calling for a federal investigation into the shooting. The officer who fatally shot Wiley has since resigned.

There is a lot of truth to this
I have a completely unscientific theory about Michelin restaurants:
1 star: Fantastic. Great food, serious cooking, no nonsense.
2 stars: Often unbearable. Haute cuisine at its most self-conscious. 14 courses, tweezers, foam, and an elaborate philosophical explanation of a carrot.
3 stars: Somehow fantastic again. The absurdity becomes so extreme, the execution so extraordinary, that it transcends pretension and becomes art.
The Michelin paradox: 1 is great, 2 is terrible, 3 is sublime.
