"In a semi-free market, many of the athletes are more valuable than the coaches, which is why we should cap the athletes' compensation but not the coaches' compensation" is an indefensible but revealing argument.
"I'm gonna say this, I probably shouldn't: nine of my players make more than my assistants. And the other three make more than all my staff, and we are not one of the highest payers..." John Calipari continuing his support for Protect College Sports Act while dishing out some interesting facts on his roster. #WPS Full 35-minute presser: nwahomepage.com/sports/watch…

Bharat is 100% right! There was zero player input into this process. Dems should not support a bill that helps multi-billion dollar institutions w/o player input and giving antitrust cover. The party of small govt certainty did not mind getting into small details here either.
Why are some Democrats helping the GOP pass a bill that enables strict limitations on how much college athletes can make and where they can play, but no such limitations on all the money coaches and schools and administrators can make off of college athletics?

HAIL MARY? Senate set to pass Protect College Sports Act this evening. Then, Sen. Cruz wants Speaker Johnson to reconvene the House to pass the bill, have President Donald Trump sign it on College Gameday, and then campaign on it: “I believe the speaker will call the House back and pass this bill," he says in interview. “President Trump has been quite vocal that he believes the House should come back" Trump said yesterday he wants the House to come back and pass it. For Johnson, Cruz says “there are very few things that are more productive for his members to be doing on the campaign trail than for them to come back to DC for 24 hours and come together to pass a big bipartisan victory on a topic that millions of Americans care passionately about" And there have been lots of grumbles about this bill not addressing affordability issues. But Cruz says many regular people "don't really care a lot about politics, but care deeply about college sports, and a whole lot of voters may go: ‘I'll be damned, these guys can actually get something done.’ And I think that that is a very strong message going into election day" semafor.com/article/09/28/20…

Dominating D by my Dawgs. If anyone with two eyes can see Gunner…this is the weakest part of the team. He’s not very good at throwing the ball downfield. One throw in the 1st quarter doesn’t change the awful throws the rest of the game. #GoDawgs

This is painful. Gunner can only dink and dunk. That works today and inferior teams. It’s also why we can win playoff games anymore. #Dawgs

Listen to these Stanford football players. They’re using their voice and their power to fight for a better deal. I support them—and I’m inspired by their leadership.
NEW: The Senate is on the verge of passing the "Protect College Sports Act" after lobbying from Amazon, Disney, Paramount and more. The bill would cap player compensation, but fails to address massive coach salaries, buyouts, or private equity. Actual college athletes have been left out of the process, so while the NCAA would get an anti-trust exemption, players wouldn't get a seat at the table. We talked to Stanford football players to learn more.

News: The AFL-CIO, College Football Players Association, NAACP and other groups sent a letter to Senate leadership this morning emphasizing their opposition to the Protect College Sports Act. The groups urged Senate to delay a vote. Some Senate Dems are expected to support the PCSA. We'll see if the continued opposition from labor, etc makes a difference Here's the letter: punchbowl.news/september-pcs…

College GameDay has turned into a forum for folks like Ted Cruz and Nick Saban to shill for the Protect College Sports Act. I figured someone ought to discuss just how many of their talking points are misleading or false. Gift column: nytimes.com/athletic/7591618…

Look at the massive crowd behind them and tell me with a straight face that college sports are in "absolute chaos". The "chaos" is that (mostly black) athletes now have bargaining power and white coaches and sports industry execs hate it. 1/ Want proof? Here are the numbers:
Pat McAfee nailed it: College sports are in “absolute chaos,” there are no rules anyone can reliably follow, and Congress is now “our only option.” Coach Saban put the absurdity plainly: “Would we ever think that an NFL player could come back and play in college? It’s absolutely crazy.” College sports cannot survive as a courtroom free-for-all. It is time to pass the Protect College Sports Act, send it to President Trump’s desk, and sign it on College GameDay this fall.

Big news! It’s something @CFBPAOfficial has been working on for a while - doing the long hard work of organizing to bring stability to this sport. More to come…
Stanford football players have established the first chapter of the College Football Players Association in a move intended to create a foundation for unionization and collective bargaining - the latest signal of growing momentum for a college CBA. yhoo.it/4vMnQBb

The number one problem with youth sports in America is that they've become completely unaffordable. We talked to parents paying up to $25,000 per year for their kids to play sports. Private equity and corporations are turning kids' sports into multi-billion dollar businesses.

My guy @Truthh4 is a 1000% correct. I'm so sick and tired of administrators, media people, bureaucrats, and politicians dictate the game we love without getting player input. Keith lived it and continues to be a major part of the game - listen to him! #GoDawgs
This is a great conversation. I spoke with an administrator recently who raised the same point around the long-term mental health implications of the current system. The reality is that most of this kids will never make this type of lump sum money again. Are they earning it? Yes. Are there going to be adverse long-term effects as they transition to “regular” life post college? Absolutely. And at the moment there is no unified structure to support that reality. A CBA is needed and will come.

Gunner looks bad and slow. If he’s going to throw - they need to be some high percentage throws to the TE or even some slants. With Frazier hurt they need Bo Walker to keep up the pressure #GoDawgs
