At #CBCFALC55, I joined @BLKHLTH & Amgen for an important conversation on the future of 340B. As @NBCSL77 Financial Secretary, my message was simple: ask the tough questions, challenge what’s presented & make sure the communities we serve are never an afterthought.

The CBC will continue to oppose this legislation in its current form and will continue to advocate for a college athletics system that protects athletes, respects their rights, invests in HBCUs, and ensures that the communities that built this industry have a meaningful voice in its future.

This #LaborDay, we honor the heroic efforts of American workers participating in labor movements. In response to African American exclusion from labor organizations, Black workers created all-Black unions that championed their members’ class & racial interests. #ANationsStory

This is incredible news! No family in America has been spared the scourge of cancer, including my own. Having lost my mother, the late Nancy Gardner Sewell, to pancreatic cancer, I know firsthand the heartbreak and devastation this disease can bring to a family. That is why I am overjoyed to join millions of Americans in celebrating this historic victory which will help revolutionize the way we treat pancreatic cancer. The FDA’s approval of daraxonrasib offers new hope to pancreatic cancer patients and their loved ones, and represents a remarkable step forward in our fight against one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Breakthroughs like this one highlight why we must continue investing in lifesaving research - so that one day we will not only be able to treat pancreatic cancer, but cure it!

Speaking about the criticisms against the Democratic House Leader, Antjuan Seawright, a Democratic strategist who has advised Jeffries for years, said, “Hakeem Jeffries can meet with whoever the hell he wants to,” adding, “That’s his prerogative, that’s his business. And so it’s stupid for anybody else to think that they get to decide who he should or should not meet with.” He dismissed the blowback against Jeffries as “silly, manufactured, convenient outrage by some on the left.” Seawright also argued that most of the outrage from the left is coming from white progressives and others online who “seem to take issue every time he sneezes or every time he does not look their way.” He told theGrio, “They take this approach of their way or the highway, and that’s not how things work. Truth be told, there are some who really take issue with the fact that a Black man is poised to be speaker, and they make it known in different ways.” Seawright called out a double standard in criticisms of Jeffries’ meeting with a Trump ally, citing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s two meetings with President Trump, both in the Oval Office. “I find it ironic because they had no problem when the mayor of New York had a meeting with the president. And that was celebrated. They take no issue when members of Congress that they like, like [U.S. Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, work with Republicans on things that they agree upon,” he told theGrio. “But when Hakeem Jeffries, the first African-American leader of any caucus and poised to be the first African-American Speaker, does it, then those who are fluent and privileged seem to take issue with that.” Seawright says Jeffries “welcomes constructive criticism,” however, “it’s silly for those who have not constructed anything to find themselves criticizing his efforts and his leadership.” thegrio.com/2026/08/24/hakee…

Before they were enslaved, they were free human beings. They had names, families, languages, cultures, histories, gifts, and dreams. In August 1619, captured Africans were brought to Virginia and subjected to a system that would grow into generations of racialized chattel slavery. We must tell the truth about what was done to our ancestors without allowing what was done to them to define the fullness of who they were. Dehumanization requires us to stop seeing people as people. That is why remembering this history matters now. When we deny the humanity of any group, when we reduce people to categories, commodities, threats, or problems to be controlled, we move further away from justice. Let truth strengthen our commitment to create the Beloved Community, where every person’s dignity is recognized, protected, and affirmed. #BlackHistory #HumanDignity #1619 #BelovedCommunity

Originally called Decoration Day, Black Americans interred the bodies of fallen Union soldiers to honor their sacrifice — now known as Memorial Day. Decades later, my great-grandfather served our nation in WWI. Then my grandfather took post in WWII and the Korean War. Today and every day, I honor their sacrifice by fighting for rights they were denied in a country they loved, knowing freedom will prevail if we refuse to give up the battle.
