Getting SO excited for the 2024 Montagna! montagnasymposium.org
Join me and my fellow program chairs at the 71st Annual Montagana Symposium, titled “Skin of Color Dermatology: The Interaction of Science & Society” as we bring together basic/translational researchers with social scientists to present the latest advancements in skin biology!
Thoroughly enjoyed the last few weeks of travel to the @VI4Research @NIH_NIAMS and then giving the Welker-Streips lecture in #Breckenridge @WindRiverConf. Thanks to the micro community for welcoming me into the fold and christening me a #bactobaddy.
Cheers to the medical students in the @HarrisTryonLab for representing our group so well @SocInvestDerm poster sessions!
It was as fun as it looks to present work from the @HarrisTryonLab @UTSWDerm and connect with friends and colleagues @SocInvestDerm in #Dallas @HiltonAnatole. On to the next discovery…
Thanks to @DongXintong for organizing such a stimulating day @UTD_Biology discussing host #microbe interactions. Look forward to chatting more next week @SocInvestDerm in Dallas!
10/11 In an exciting final twist, we can leverage this conversation between host hormones and bacteria for #therapeutics to decrease S. aureus virulence, with an enantiomer of testosterone, inhibiting expression of PSMs, red blood cell hemolysis and neutrophil killing.
9/11…testosterone cannot activate strains that lack AgrCA. Together, our findings illuminate a molecular conversation between S. aureus and the host through the sensing of testosterone and DHT.
5/11 Next, with tools generated in the @horswill lab by @mohinibattharya, we…
3/11...IL4 signaling regulates androgen production in sebaceous glands, leading @harristryonlab to wonder whether testosterone might stimulate virulence in
S. aureus, allowing it to colonize the skin in #atopicdermatitis. To test this we…
2/11 S. aureus is the most common cause of skin infections, yet it rarely colonizes healthy skin.
During inflammation, like #atopicdermatitis and #eczema S. aureus begins to dominate. Infections are also more common in men. Our lab showed in 2021@PNASNews that…
Standing room only for @JosephineThinwa #PROVIDES lecture. Fantastic biochemical dissection of autophagy in host virtual response.
@DrQuinnCapers4, thank you for the impact you have had on @UTSWNews and on me! Sea changes are possible in academics and in medicine. Thanks for showing so many the way.
Second stop in Raleigh-Durham was at @DukeDermatology for the Pinnell Symposium. Great to connect with skin scientists around insights from the @HarrisTryonLab. #microbiome, #diet, #hormones.
Great @BWFUND meeting two weeks ago! Met fellow @BWFPATH awardees and discussed science with this interdisciplinary group! As a #BWFPDEP @amays_bwfund and #BWFCAMS awardee it was really special to be back for a third meeting and reflect on my years as a BWF funded scholar.
#SHSA2023 meeting. 1/2 Excited to learn from scientist like @howardderm chair Dr. Okoye on social determinants of health and #Hidradenitis. Also incredible to connect with @BUDermatology Dr. Rhoda Alani, meeting @drzedzha, and networking with my fellow Shivani Jain.
Wonderful visit last week to @PittDermatology sharing insights from my lab about host-microbial interactions and their impact on dermatology.
What a day! GR @EmoryDerm, amazing talk by @JenniferGillMD @UTSWDerm, Mahendran Chinnappan talk @LHooperLab lab meeting, unbelievable news from the @BWFUND, and now getting to hood Edem Tchegnon @UTSWGradSchool commencement.
