Sri Lanka's speculative real estate sector grow fast without enough regulations. The absence of escrow accounts, a lack of transparency, inadequate laws and regulations, and the inadequate capacity of condominium authority expose buyers, developers and the wider economy to risk.
The paper is inspired by the brilliant work of Vinay Gidwani, drawing on his conceptualisation of colonial capitalism's waste/value dialectic to trace the historical production of climate vulnerability in Sri Lanka's dry zone.

The paper attempts to go beyond simply identifying colonialism and capitalism as key drivers of climate vulnerability and agrarian precarity by illuminating the specific logics processes through which agrarian societies have been, and continue to be, valued and devalued.

The problem with the small government brigade is that they never ever tell you which public services they will cut to reduce taxation. They talk about small government as if it was cost-free.
Just once I would love them to go into a pharmacy with their doctor's prescription and say to the chemist:
"I want to pay the full cost of these meds, not the PBS subsidised price, because I am opposed to socialism and big government."
Oddly, they don't.
@labor pouring more taxpayer money into the public service to buy votes is an economic death spiral. Andrew knows but just wants to keep his high paying job with all the fancy perks too.
