Allegations of examination malpractice have surfaced at the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) regional examination centre in Shivamogga, where students were allegedly allowed to use mobile phones and books during degree and postgraduate examinations in exchange for money. However, the regional director has denied the allegations. The examination centre, located at the KSOU regional office near Alkol Circle, has come under scrutiny after a video purportedly showing students using books and mobile phones during examinations went viral on social media. According to the allegations, students who paid money were permitted to use books and mobile phones during examinations without interference from invigilators. It was further alleged that students who paid were seated on the second floor of the examination centre, while those who did not pay were accommodated on the first floor. The alleged irregularities have raised questions about the conduct and supervision of examinations at the centre. KSOU's degree and postgraduate examinations began on October 7 and are scheduled to continue until November 20. Speaking to reporters, KSOU Regional Director B.M. Swamy denied that any examination malpractice had taken place at the Shivamogga centre. “Some people think that money was illegally collected to facilitate malpractice. No such malpractice happened at our Shivamogga centre. The university has also warned us against such irregularities,” he said. Swamy maintained that examination staff do not permit mobile phones, smartwatches or similar devices inside the examination centre. Sources in the district administration said the matter had already been brought to the attention of the university's Registrar of Evaluation. The allegations have yet to be independently established, and further details regarding any formal inquiry or action by the university authorities are awaited.

A police sub-inspector was suspended after a video purportedly showing him slapping a female dancer during a Navratri jagran programme and allegedly pointing his service pistol at an agitated crowd went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place around 3 a.m. on Tuesday near Vaishnavi Durga Sthan at Pangachi Chowk in the Mufassil police station area of Begusarai. The officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar, had been deployed to provide security for the event. According to reports, he climbed onto the stage and slapped the dancer, who was performing to film songs, while also allegedly manhandling the event organiser. Reports suggest that the officer had demanded that the programme be stopped, claiming it had continued for too long. When the event continued, he allegedly resorted to physical force in front of the audience. The incident triggered anger among those present. As people surrounded the officer after he stepped down from the stage, he allegedly pulled out his service pistol, pointed it at the crowd and threatened those gathered. The dancer later claimed that she had already stopped performing when the officer slapped her without any apparent reason. She demanded a public apology and questioned why female police personnel had not been sent to address the situation. Following the circulation of the video, Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manish suspended Anil Kumar and ordered an investigation led by the Sadar-Van Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The SP reportedly maintained that the dance performance was obscene and that the officer had intervened to control the situation and prevent disorder. However, local residents disputed this account, stating that the programme was scheduled to continue until morning and questioning the use of physical force by the officer. The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the officer's conduct. Further details are awaited.

A CCTV footage has emerged in the case involving the death of Lucknow businessman Shiva Sharma, showing him with the main accused, Shraddha Dubey, before his death. The viral footage, reportedly from Awadh Green Apartment, also shows Shraddha’s sister, Rashmi. Footage captures three people walking down a stairwell inside a building. Shraddha’s sister, Rashmi, walks down first, followed closely by a Shiva Sharma and Shraddha Dubey. The footage has surfaced amid questions about the movements of those present at the apartment and the positioning of CCTV cameras on the day of the incident. Ajay Rai, the owner of a flat in Awadh Green Apartment, has shared details about Shraddha Dubey’s alleged behaviour and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death. According to Rai, Shraddha had an extremely aggressive attitude and frequently used abusive language. He claimed that she had also objected when he installed CCTV cameras in the apartment. Rai alleged that she abused him during the dispute before returning to her flat. Rai also raised questions about the movements of people on the day of the incident. He claimed that nobody used the stairs that day and that everyone left through the lift. According to Rai, Shraddha already knew that CCTV cameras covered the first floor. He also claimed that she knew the positioning of the camera installed towards the balcony. Rai said the camera's rear side faced the direction from which Sharma reportedly fell, preventing it from recording activities in that area. He added that Shraddha’s flat and his own flat face the same direction. The camera positions and the movements of people in the apartment on the day of the incident have therefore emerged as important aspects of the case. The claims about Shraddha’s behaviour and her knowledge of the cameras remain allegations attributed to Rai. Police will conduct a crime scene recreation with the assistance of a forensic team to investigate whether Sharma died by suicide or was killed. Before her arrest, the main accused, Shraddha Dubey, released videos on social media in which she described Sharma’s death as a suicide. However, Sharma’s mother filed a police complaint alleging murder. The conflicting accounts have prompted investigators to examine the circumstances of Sharma’s fall from the fourth floor. As part of the reconstruction, the forensic team will drop a dummy matching Sharma’s weight and physical build from the fourth floor. The exercise will help investigators examine how a person could fall from the building and land at the spot where Sharma was found. The team will assess possible outcomes in different scenarios, including a person falling independently, being pushed or being forcibly thrown from the height. The forensic team will analyse the trajectory and distance of the fall, along with the angle at which the dummy lands. Investigators will examine whether the landing position and distance are consistent with different possible scenarios. The team will also assess how the application of additional force, such as in a case where someone is forcibly thrown from a height, could affect the body's trajectory and landing position. It will compare these observations with the possible trajectory of a person falling independently, including whether the person would land forward or directly below the point of the fall. The reconstruction will also examine the injury patterns that could result from a person jumping or falling independently, being pushed or being thrown from the fourth floor. Forensic experts will compare their findings with the injuries documented in Sharma’s post-mortem report. The comparison will help investigators assess whether the physical evidence aligns with the different possible explanations for his death.
Shraddha Dubey, the prime accused in the Shiva Sharma murder case, along with her sister Rashmi Dubey and driver Danish, was brought to Civil Hospital in Lucknow for a medical examination. The three accused are expected to be produced before a court in Lucknow following the medical examination.

A video of a young woman alleging discrimination against Kannada speakers in the information technology (IT) sector has gone viral on social media, sparking concerns over local employment opportunities in Bengaluru. In the video, the woman claims that IT companies give preference to Telugu and Tamil speakers while allegedly rejecting candidates whose resumes mention Kannada. She also alleges that campus recruitment drives are not being conducted at colleges in Bengaluru, limiting job opportunities for local graduates. In the video, the woman appeals to Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to intervene and address the issue. She claims that companies are recruiting candidates from other states at lower salaries instead of providing adequate opportunities to local graduates. “Campus interviews are not being conducted in Bengaluru colleges. They do not hire if Kannada is mentioned in the resume. They bring people from elsewhere for lower salaries. Because of this, we are not getting opportunities. Please provide a solution to this problem,” she says in the video. The woman's claims have brought renewed attention to concerns about employment opportunities for Karnataka's graduates and the role of language in recruitment. However, the allegations made in the viral video have not been independently verified. Further information would be needed to establish whether the alleged hiring practices are occurring and whether language preferences are influencing recruitment decisions at specific companies.

Senior Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has dismissed the alleged sting operation controversy as a “false and concocted case” intended to blackmail him and tarnish his reputation. He said he had personally filed a complaint to ensure that the truth emerged and those responsible were identified. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said the allegations were fabricated and that he had initiated both legal and police action against those allegedly involved. “This is a false case, a manufactured case intended for blackmail. That is why I myself filed the complaint. I am the complainant. The people should know the truth, and those behind this conspiracy must be identified,” he said. The former Chief Minister also said he had approached a civil court and obtained an injunction to prevent what he described as unnecessary publicity surrounding the matter. Rejecting the allegations as baseless, Siddaramaiah cited his long political career, including his tenure as Chief Minister, and maintained that he had never faced a similar controversy before. “I was Chief Minister for eight years, and nothing like this ever happened. From the time I became a minister in 1984 until today, no such incident has occurred. This has been created now, and their objective will not succeed,” he said. Responding to questions about alleged blackmail attempts, Siddaramaiah denied that he had ever been subjected to such pressure, either in the present case or in the past. He also named Krupa Alva of Mangaluru and Rakesh Shetty of Power TV while referring to those allegedly linked to the controversy. Siddaramaiah claimed that Shetty had admitted to conducting the sting operation, but maintained that the allegations against him had no truth. Reacting to political responses to the controversy, including statements of support from Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Siddaramaiah said he did not need anyone's support and that the priority was to establish the truth. “There is no need for anyone to support me. What is important is that the people of the state know the truth and understand that this is a false case,” he said. Asked whether the alleged episode was part of a conspiracy to damage his reputation, Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that the public would not believe the allegations. “There has to be a black mark first. No matter how much they try, people will not believe it,” he remarked. Siddaramaiah said he had faith in the ongoing investigation and called for an impartial inquiry. While rejecting the need for a Special Investigation Team (SIT), he stressed that the existing probe must be conducted fairly. “I have faith in the inquiry. My only demand is that the investigation be fair and that the truth should come out,” he said. When asked whether anyone within the Congress party could be involved, Siddaramaiah said the investigation should establish the identities of all those responsible, irrespective of their political affiliations. “Whether it is someone from our party or another party, that must be uncovered through the investigation,” he said. Siddaramaiah said he first learnt about the matter on September 26 and reiterated that he was not disturbed by the allegations because, according to him, the alleged incident had never occurred. “This never happened. It is totally concocted and completely false,” he said.

A friendship that allegedly soured into a professional rivalry ended in a gruesome murder in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday, with a man allegedly running over and bludgeoning his friend to death before surrendering to police. The victim, Devesh alias Bunty Dixit (36), died on the spot. The accused, Pawan Parashar (22), a resident of Wankhedenagar, later drove to the Cidco police station and surrendered, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Dixit was returning home after a gym session when Parashar allegedly began pursuing him in a car. The chase ended near Mangesh Gas Agency in N-7 Cidco. Police said Parashar allegedly rammed Dixit's two-wheeler from behind with enough force to fling him onto the road. His two-wheeler was thrown nearly 150 feet away. Citing eyewitness accounts, police said the accused took a U-turn after the collision, drove back towards the injured Dixit, stepped out of the car and repeatedly struck him on the head with a stick and an iron rod he had carried with him. "After the collision, the accused took a U-turn, drove back to the injured man, got out of the car and repeatedly attacked him on the head with a stick and an iron rod," said Cidco inspector Atul Yerme. Dixit succumbed to the injuries on the spot before any medical help could reach him. The killing triggered panic in the locality, with passersby and shopkeepers gathering at the scene. Senior police officers, including deputy commissioner of police (Zone II) Ratnakar Navale, visited the spot. Police suspect the crime stemmed from a fallout between the two men. "The accused, after surrendering before the police, claimed that he and the victim used to work as bouncers for different bars. He was upset due to their friendship turning into a rivalry," Navale told to media. He said police teams were cross-verifying the accused's version and probing the exact motive behind the murder. Inspector (Crime) Gajanan Kalyankar said investigators were questioning Parashar to establish the complete sequence of events and ascertain the circumstances that led to the killing.

The court proceedings are expected to mark the next step in the case as the police investigation continues. Police have declined to comment on the motive for the killing, other aspects of the case and the further legal proceedings. Therefore, several details about the circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear. Dixit ran a mess and was also involved in the plotting business. Preliminary information suggests that he and Parashar had been involved in a dispute for some time. An old rivalry and a possible business dispute are among the potential motives being considered in connection with the killing. However, the precise nature of the dispute and whether it directly led to Thursday’s attack have not been established. The motive therefore remains unconfirmed. The circumstances leading to the confrontation, along with the sequence of events and the evidence seized by police, will be important to establishing what happened before the attack and what led to Dixit’s death.

An accused slapped a female doctor at a primary health center in Maharashtra's Wardha district while police personnel were present, with the incident captured on CCTV. The assault has triggered outrage among government doctors, who have demanded strict action against the accused and the police personnel accompanying him. The incident took place at the Talegaon Shyamji Pant Primary Health Centre in Arvi taluka, where Dr Shraddha Bhumre serves as a medical officer. According to reports, five police personnel had brought the accused, identified as Kadir Ali Razzaq Ali, to the health centre for a medical examination before his production in court. After the medical examination was completed, the accused was asked to sign the necessary documents. He signed the papers before suddenly slapping Dr Bhumre on the cheek, according to reports. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced. The police personnel present at the health centre were reportedly taken by surprise before they apprehended the accused and moved him aside. Other patients and hospital staff who witnessed the incident were left shocked. The accused is a local resident and reportedly has several criminal cases registered against him. The incident has sparked anger among government medical officers, with doctors raising concerns about the safety of healthcare workers on duty. The Gazetted Medical Officers' Association met Wardha District Collector Vanmathi C and submitted a representation seeking action over the incident. The association alleged that the five police personnel present at the health centre had failed to take adequate precautions to prevent the assault, raising concerns over possible negligence in the discharge of their duties. The association has demanded that stringent charges be registered against the accused and that immediate action be taken against the police personnel who brought him to the health centre. Doctors have also warned that outpatient department (OPD) services will remain closed until their demands are addressed, signalling the possibility of disruption to healthcare services. The matter has also been brought to the attention of the state-level Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO). Doctors associated with the protest, including Dr Shridhar Tamhankar, Dr Amol Yelne and Dr Snehal Rathod, have conveyed their opposition to the assault and made it clear that an attack on a woman medical officer would not be tolerated. The incident has renewed concerns over the security of medical professionals working in government healthcare facilities, particularly when they are required to examine individuals brought in by law enforcement personnel.
