Can't believe I had to read 500 pages of Wives and Daughters before it turned into an Elizabeth Gaskell novel. #Gaskell #VictorianFiction

I managed my first 2 on Wordle yesterday and the word was LOSER! Is the Universe trying to tell me something, maybe?

I put this on Instagram a couple of days ago, but thought I'd share on Twitter too as it's a pretty accurate representation of my life.

Reading Shirley Jackson and every now and then I go “Bloody hell, Shirl” like Dave from #Gogglebox .

Well, I finally finished reading Dombey and Son, so here are some pictures of Paul and Edith Dombey giving each other the evils, while ghastly Mr Carker looks on and poor Florence desponds. #Dickens #Dombey #drawings

Obviously, loaf/toast isn't a very good rhyme, but I'm pretty sure Larkin originally wrote "their greenness is a kind of growth" (which makes actual sense) then changed it to "grief" for the rhyme.

A few months ago I did this cartoon about Casaubon writing a book about jokes in #Middlemarch. Then last night I read this in Marina Warner’s “No Go The Bogeyman”(1998): “But it would be a Casaubon’s task to cover all the permutations of humour ...” #NothingNewUnderTheSun , eh?
As it’s #GeorgeEliot ‘s birthday today, here are some scenes from my new version of #Middlemarch * in which Casaubon is writing a book about jokes, not mythologies, and doesn’t think anyone else’s jokes are funny.

As it’s the #IdesofMarch today, here are a couple of pages from my tiny book “An Idiot’s Guide” – a guide to being an idiot.

Dombey and Son is turning out to be a lot less like Steptoe and Son than I was hoping.

Some more mammoth fun inspired by #Stroud @museuminthepark 's Ice Age exhibition.
