Thank you @CorsIAQ for a great idea. Two pairs of Corsi-Boxes to the rescue! The plexiglass barriers being used at tonight’s debate are pretty useless, experts say. nytimes.com/2020/10/07/us/po…

Great article featuring @linseymarr @jljcolorado @ShellyMBoulder @Don_Milton Six months into the pandemic, public-health guidelines are still largely glossing over the most important form of coronavirus transmission. @zeynep reports: theatlantic.com/health/archi… @IndoorChem

Well worth reading to understand the critical discussion of aerosols and why ventilation matters now!

2/ This thread is offered constructively to point out a problem & suggest a needed change (with a little bit of humor sprinkled in). I hope it is taken on that spirit. I don’t know how to make these points without criticizing some past statements or pointing out key major errors

My children ask every day, “daddy when can we hug our friends again?”
More on hugging newscientist.com/article/mg2… "Marr recommends face coverings, pointing faces in opposite directions and not touching the other person’s face or clothing with your face. 'This is not a spontaneous act: you have to plan, and you should ask consent.' "
Regarding "hygiene theater," I've said it before, and I'll say it again: we should be spending at least as much time and attention on distancing + masks + avoiding crowds + good ventilation indoors as we do on hygiene.

Not a surprise but good to see confirmation...infectious aerosols in with SARS-CoV-2 enriched in the smallest submicron sizes. These aerosols are produced in the speech of infected individuals...also in coughs/sneezes with 100x aerosol particles over large (>50 micron) droplets.
MAJOR FINDING: research team demonstrates that aerosols emitted by SARS-CoV-2 patients contain the virus and the virus can infect cells. This is a pre-print, but the case for airborne transmission just got a lot stronger. @Prof_Lowe medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

1/25 More Thoughts on Schools, or How We Might have Blown it Again. Apologies to many who want to rush back, for understandable reasons, despite potentially horrific cost of doing so. This is NOT just about children getting infected. It's about the entire country. (more)
1/4 I've been a cautious advocate for re-opening US schools in fall if (a) proper resources available to schools/districts to take necessary steps to reduce risks, (b) schools/districts have enough time to get it right, and (c) conditions on ground make sense to do so. (more)
