I enjoyed volunteering at the Ask a Master Gardener table and the Seed Library while the girls explored the gardens, made crafts, tagged butterflies, and cheered on the cockroach races! @VBMGA #mastergardener #Virginiabeach

🌊 Beach Girls Rock! is getting bigger!
Around 250 girls from across Virginia Beach City Public Schools came together Saturday at @BrickellAcademy for the fall Beach Girls Rock! (BGR!) event, which is now in its 13th year! 🌟💫
For the first time ever, high school students joined the mix, exploring career opportunities, personal empowerment, mental health, and STEM through hands-on activities and engaging workshops. 💪🏽🔬
The day kicked off with remarks from longtime VBCPS educator and BGR! founder Mrs. Jobynia Caldwell, who has helped make this event a meaningful experience for generations of students. 🤩
BGR! takes place twice a year and is organized by the VBSchools Office for Opportunity and Achievement. In addition to student workshops, the event offers sessions for parents and guardians, too. ✨
🎥 Stay tuned for more from Beach Girls Rock! in the next episode of #NicolesEdventures, coming later this week!

Fresh from the garden to the pantry! This harvest became homemade marinara, ketchup, tomato paste, and tomato powder made with our homegrown tomatoes, herbs, and veggies. #Homegrown #Tomatoes #UrbanHomestead #PreserveTheHarvest @VBMGA
First harvest of our heirloom Black Spanish radishes! An old-fashioned variety with bold flavor that's still earning a place in today's garden.

The school garden is thriving! From Roma tomatoes, cucumbers, and gourds to colorful flowers buzzing with busy pollinators. Every day is a chance to learn, grow, and explore. @BaysideBulldog @Amanda_LoydVB @VBMGA #schoolgarden @vbschools
Companion planting! This garden row is a powerhouse trio: cucumbers, onions, & radishes growing together in one space. The radishes help act as a trap crop for pests like cucumber beetles, while the strong scent of onions can help deter unwanted insects. #backyardgarden @VBMGA
Today was our final Garden Club meeting of the year! Ss cleaned garden beds, learned about pollination, garden pests, & plant diseases, spotted pollinators & a young praying mantis. So proud of how much they’ve grown this year!

Learned about mushroom cultivation and log inoculation with @pawpawridge at Reaver Beach Brewery. Hands-on learning, great people, and now the journey of growing our own mushrooms begins! #MushroomCultivation #Homesteading @VBMGA
Borage is more than just a pretty blue bloom. This garden powerhouse attracts pollinators, improves soil health, & makes a perfect companion plant for tomatoes, squash, & strawberries. Bonus: it self-seeds for seasons of beauty and benefits! #Borage #PollinatorGarden @VBMGA
Garden Club was full of learning & harvesting today! Ss harvested radishes, explored how plants make more of themselves through seeds , runners, & flowers. Each student was thankful for a basil plant by the @VBMGA. So much growth & curiosity in the garden! @BaysideBulldog
A huge congrats to Annabelle for placing 4th in the VA 4-H State Championship Communications Presentation Competition with her presentation, “The Scoop on Poop”!

Today we spotted a Black Swallowtail enjoying our Rue—one of its favorite host plants! These beautiful butterflies lay their eggs on plants like Rue, parsley, dill, and fennel, giving their caterpillars the perfect place to grow. @VBMGA @Butterfly_VA #butterfly
In our garden club, we’re watching cabbage grow step by step & it’s a great reminder for our Ss that big things start small. Every seedling needs patience, care, & sunshine. Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up. @BaysideBulldog @Amanda_LoydVB @VBMGA
