Narcissists usually respond in two ways: rage or absence. Sometimes it's loud… sometimes it's silent. But either way, it's destructive.
Whenever life's demands surface and they're forced to face reality outside of their carefully crafted delusions, a narcissist will react in one of two extremes: either they explode with anger, or they withdraw completely and shut you out with the infamous silent treatment. It's never about working through issues, never about accountability, never about resolving conflict in a healthy, mature way.
No… communication with a narcissist doesn't end with clarity or solutions. It ends with you feeling confused, blamed, and exhausted. Because to them, the problem is never their actions, never their words, never their behavior....it's always you and your reaction.
If you cry, you're “too sensitive.”
If you get angry, you're “crazy.”
If you call them out, you're “starting drama.”
If you pull away to protect your peace, you're “cold” and “heartless.” No matter what you do, they twist it. No matter how valid your feelings are, they invalidate them. No matter how much you try to explain, they refuse to understand. Because understanding you would require them to admit that maybe they're wrong. And a narcissist's ego simply can't allow that.
When a narcissist is backed into a corner...when the mask slips, when their lies unravel, when their manipulation stops working...they default to rage or absence. That rage can be verbal, emotional, even physical. It's an explosion meant to intimidate, to distract, to shift blame, to regain control. That absence, the silent treatment, is just another form of manipulation. It's designed to punish you, to make you chase them, to make you question yourself, to make you feel like you’re the one who needs to apologize.
Both reactions serve the same purpose: to avoid accountability and maintain control. Because to a narcissist, the goal isn't resolution....it's dominance. The goal isn't understanding....it's winning. And they will gaslight, guilt-trip, stonewall, and lash out until they feel like they've regained the upper hand.
You'll find yourself explaining the same hurt over and over again, only to be dismissed, minimized, or mocked. You'll find yourself apologizing for your reactions to the very things they did to hurt you. You'll find yourself questioning whether you're asking for too much, whether you"re being unreasonable, whether you're the problem.
But hear me: you are not the problem. Your reactions are normal responses to abnormal behavior. Your emotions are valid. Your boundaries are justified. The problem is that a narcissist will never take responsibility for their role in the dysfunction… because doing so would mean admitting they're flawed, and their ego won't allow it.
This is why conversations with a narcissist feel like going in circles. Why arguments feel like a game you can't win. Why apologies from them feel hollow, temporary, performative. Because in their mind, they're never wrong. You're just too sensitive, too needy, too difficult, too emotional.
And that's the trap....they make you believe that if you were “better,” if you were “calmer,” if you were “more patient,” things would improve. But the truth is, you could bend over backwards and it still wouldn't be enough. Because the goalpost will always move. The rules will always change. The narrative will always shift to make you the villain and them the victim.
Rage or absence. Explosion or silence. Either way, it's emotional abuse dressed up as conflict resolution. Either way, it leaves you drained, confused, and doubting yourself.
The only real solution? Distance. Healing. Detachment. Choosing yourself. Because you'll never get accountability, empathy, or genuine change from someone committed to protecting their ego at all costs. And the longer you stay in the cycle, the harder it becomes to see just how much of yourself you're sacrificing just to keep the peace.
Remember: communication with a narcissist isn't about resolving problems… it's about surviving their reactions. And you deserve so much more than survival. You deserve peace. You deserve safety. You deserve love that doesn't make you question your worth.

Now that @AbdulElSayed has been asked to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood because of his mother’s alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood before he was born, will we be asking Donald Trump to disavow the Ku Klux Klan because of his father’s alleged ties to the KKK in the 1920s?

The Pueblo peoples of New Mexico have lived in the region for centuries and speak languages from three separate families: Tanoan, Keresan, and Zuni. The Tanoan family includes three languages still spoken in the northern pueblos: Tiwa, Tewa, and Towa. These languages are indigenous to the Southwest and are distinct from the languages of neighboring groups such as the Navajo and Apache.
This map focuses on the Tanoan languages of the Northern Pueblos. Northern Tiwa (TEE-wah) is spoken at Taos Pueblo and Picuris (pee-koo-REES) Pueblo. Tewa (TAY-wah) is spoken at Ohkay Owingeh (oh-KAI oh-WEEN-geh), Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Nambé (nam-BAY), Pojoaque (poh-HWAH-keh), and Tesuque. Towa (TOH-wah) is spoken at Jemez (HAY-mess) Pueblo. Taos and Picuris are the two Northern Tiwa communities. The other six northern pueblos listed above speak Tewa. Jemez is the only remaining community that speaks Towa.
The map and text do not cover every Pueblo language. They leave out Southern Tiwa, spoken at Isleta Pueblo and Sandia Pueblo. They also do not include the Keresan languages spoken at pueblos such as Acoma, Laguna, Cochiti, and Santo Domingo, or the Zuni language. The graphic is limited to Pueblo communities in northern New Mexico and does not address languages spoken by other Indigenous peoples in the broader region.
The placements on the map match the actual locations of these pueblos, and community language programs continue to support the transmission of Tiwa, Tewa, and Towa.
