High gas prices... Noticed how bananas look bad in supermarkets lately? Ethane is normally used for ripening. At current gas prices, suppliers are shortening the ripening stage or skipping it all together.

Takeway from the Colonial story for nation state cyber armies: You can easily get away with attacks on adversary critical infrastructure by disguising it as ransomware

If you were surprised that corporate ransomware could also affect critical infrastructure, particularly after all the attacks on hospitals we have seen last year, you must be totally naive.

Unpopular opinion: the fetish of Americans for big cars is extremely bad for the climate (and cities) and promoting them (even if they are electric) is a BAD idea. Is it too much to ask that the president hypes a more responsible car? Or is that only sensible outside the US?
By committing to the continuation of heavy SUVs – and using the President to promote them – the US is committing to an unjust climate transition This will worsen the #ClimateCrisis, increase energy demand & lead to more pedestrian deaths: irishevs.com/fords-electric-… #F150Lightning

True words: 'Corporate leaders don’t know how to talk to technologists about what works and what doesn’t. Fixing this has become the most important question in modern cybersecurity.' We can't just scare the C-suite, they need to understand their options for dealing with the risk.

"employee for the city of Oldsmar, FL, visited a malicious website targeting water utilities just hours before someone broke into the computer system for the city’s water treatment plant and tried to poison drinking water" but the site "likely played no role in the intrusion"

Citing the risks for criticial infrastructure and the danger of a global/systemic cyber event, he concludes that 'overall the problem is so big it’s not insurable'. Bascially says reinsurers will not massively expand their cyber risk exposure without a government backstop. 2/2

Swiss Re CEO with an interesting take on cyber insurance: says the global market of $5.5 billion in premium is tiny compared to “gigantic” yearly cyber losses that extend into the hundreds of billions of dollars. 1/2 reinsurancene.ws/pipeline-cy…

In the photo in my banner, I had just finished telling that group our critical infrastructure was not just vulnerable to supply chain attacks, but that we still hadn’t nailed the security basics. They worried about ninjas when a 5 year old with a baseball bat could take us out.

"Elliptic has identified the Bitcoin wallet used by the DarkSide... this wallet received the 75 BTC payment made by Colonial Pipeline on May 8, following the crippling cyberattack on its operations." So CP paid ransom on Saturday (depending on which timezone this uses)

Also, come to my TED talk where you'll learn Billing is one of the top reasons ICS isn't really air gapped.
.@cnn has now confirmed what I wrote 4 days ago, that CP shut down pipeline because they couldn't bill customers. Per CNN: "The company halted operations because its billing system was compromised...and they were concerned they wouldn't be able to figure out how much to bill"
