Wicked is also just so deeply engrained in me as a theater kid who was 9 when it came out. I always related to Elphaba (except I was fat, not green). There are so many more important themes in it than just βyay girls who look different can be friends!β
No one asked but here are my major gripes with the Wicked movies:
1. Leaves out that the wizard is a sexual predator
2. Gives several Elphaba vocal lines to Glinda for no reason (takes her Fiyero scream away!!)
3. Glinda apologist propaganda
4. Horrible new songs for no reason.
5. Cuts up Defying Gravity, losing the momentum of the song and taking me completely out of it.
6. Absolutely no chemistry between Elphaba and Fiyero. And Jonathan Bailey can have chemistry with an old boot. Itβs not his fault.
7. The vocals will just never be as good as the og
We need to talk about how AI, when used as a tool, enables artists. There are so many people who make art but canβt afford exorbitant programs, editing software, instruments, supplies, etc. like anything, moderation and transparency is key.
