Consumer prices rose 3.7%.
That 2.6-point gap is the widest this year.
Rising business costs usually reach shoppers later.
Markets still give the Fed only about a 15% chance of hiking on 28 October.
If those costs reach shoppers, the Fed will be under pressure to hike again.
