Good conversation, a few strong opinions, and near-total agreement on the food. Most of our team has spent time on the other side of the table, on the Hill and inside the agencies, so evenings like this feel a bit like a reunion. Thanks to everyone who came out. Jake Tyner, Of Counsel & Senior Director of Federal Affairs, spoke with @Law360 about his move to Holland & Hart after more than a decade serving in executive branch, congressional, and private sector roles: On what drew him to Holland & Hart, Jake shared: "The firm is really focused on the issues I've focused my career on, and they've got a great reputation. So, when they approached me about the opportunity to join the firm, it was something I couldn't really pass on. I saw myself fitting in really well here." He also noted his "government experience will be invaluable" given the firm's presence out west and in Alaska: "Given my work at the Interior Department, most of our public land is located out west. A lot of what I was working on at the department goes on in that area of country," adding that his years in the Senate with Sen. Dan Sullivan mean "the time I've spent working on issues that the firm is tracking and really has a presence in translates well over to working here." On the biggest energy trend he's watching under the administration, Jake pointed to "an emphasis on producing and using U.S. resources domestically rather than a reliance on foreign sources of power and natural resources," along with "continued advancements in new technologies, which really plays well into a more diversified energy portfolio." The administration's 2026 regulatory agenda gives HR leaders and employers an early look at potential changes to workplace rules—from independent contractor classification and joint employer standards to the H-1B visa program. Troy Lyons, Senior Director of Federal Affairs, shared insights with @SHRM on how businesses should read the agenda, saying: "For businesses, the agenda is less a final scorecard than an early playbook." While regulatory deadlines "are rarely met," he noted they "remain valuable for understanding the likely sequence of agency actions." Troy explained that the DOL "plans to emphasize compliance assistance, opinion letters, self-audit tools, and targeted enforcement." His takeaway for employers? Those who "assess their compliance exposure and engage early in the regulatory process will be better positioned as proposals evolve into agency action." The administration just released its 2026 Regulatory Plan and Unified Agenda—essentially an early playbook for where federal agencies are heading next on rulemaking, enforcement, and deregulation. Senior Director of Government Affairs Troy Lyons breaks down what companies need to know: ✅ It's a signal, not a final outcome. The agenda shows where agencies intend to propose, revise, or rescind rules, giving companies a window to shape the process before proposals harden. ✅ Environmental & energy shifts are front and center. EPA and DOE are targeting vehicle emissions reconsideration, potential repeal of power plant carbon standards, narrowing of WOTUS, and nuclear regulatory streamlining. ✅ Agriculture and food programs are on the table too. USDA is targeting SNAP eligibility and work requirements, EBT security, foreign agricultural land reporting, and streamlined approvals for energy projects on federal lands. ✅ Labor & workforce rules are in play. Heat illness prevention, independent contractor classification, joint employment, H-2A/H-1B reforms, and changes to DEI-related requirements for federal contractors are all on the radar. ✅ The engagement window is now. Companies that map their exposure, build a factual record, and engage through comments, coalitions, and agency outreach will be best positioned as the agenda turns into action. Agentic AI is now being used by healthcare organizations to reclaim lost revenue from insurance denials. But what should companies keep in mind when implementing AI systems that handle private data like medical records? AI and privacy attorney Alex Kimata shares insights with The @ColoradoSun. Alex notes that while “AI is different than other technologies in the way that it’s being used, the speed at which it can produce outputs and the way it uses data that may be trained on different data,” the fundamentals of data protection still apply: "You need basic building blocks for how you protect the data. Encryption, access controls and making sure you vet your vendors." His advice to companies eager to adopt AI? Be intentional: "A lot of our clients are like, we just want to use AI for everything. And we'll say, well, what does that actually mean? …My response often is this should be intentional and it should be customized to how you want to use AI, including what vendor you use, what program you use and what controls you put on it. This idea of I just want to be an AI company quote-unquote, doesn't really make sense." Read more here: coloradosun.com/2026/07/06/h… #AIGovernance #DataPrivacy #HealthcareAI #ArtificialIntelligence
