Today, Chief Chacon welcomed 84 new cadets to the 145th Cadet Class at the academy. Chief spoke about the importance of being a guardian and being present to help the community in its hour of need. These cadets are beginning their journey to become officers.   Good luck, 145th!

A new bus route is coming to connect Austin east of I-35 from Mueller to Slaughter. Earlier today, I joined the groundbreaking for this 14-mile line. Pleasant Valley MetroRapid, an all-electric fleet, will bring another affordable+reliable public transit option to our community.

Austin's $7.1 billion transit expansion isn't just light-rail. Project Connect also includes four new high-frequency bus lines known as MetroRapid. This is what the new stations will look like. A large and small version. They'll have screens showing when the next bus arrives.

The Austin Police Department (APD) received initial reports of possible shots heard near 22nd Street and Pearl Street on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at 10:40 p.m. Several callers then told Emergency Communications that fireworks were going off in the area, and UTPD also confirmed there were fireworks in the West Campus area at the time. Due to this information, the call type was changed from Shots Fired to City Ordinance Violation and broadcasted for officers in the area to assist. Around 11:21 p.m., APD received information regarding actual shots fired and reports of people fleeing the area of 22nd Street and Pearl Street. The first APD officer was assigned to the call at 11:25 p.m., and arrived on scene within six minutes at 11:31 p.m. The total time between the initial shooting report and the officer’s arrival was ten minutes. Some news outlets have misreported that there was a 50-minute response time. There may have been confusion due to multiple firework calls.

.@Austin_Police responded to a report of a shooting at 22nd and Pearl St. Sunday evening. The victim was transported to a local hospital, according to @UTAustinPolice. The suspect was last seen driving eastbound from the intersection. More updates to come @thedailytexan
