Although a GDP of $259 billion is worth the applause, it is a clear demonstration of the tenacity, resilience, and enterprise of Lagosians, despite the glaring incompetence of government. We must confront the uncomfortable truth that these impressive figures (GDP PPP OR IGR) have not translated into improved living conditions for working-class Lagosians.
For starters, working-class Lagosians continue to face a severe housing shortage with skyrocketing rents consuming a disproportionate percentage of their income. Many families remain crammed into inadequate living spaces and many others are at the mercy of greedy landlords mostly because housing supply has been abysmal.
Our roads remain plagued by potholes and streetlights in most communities remain non-functional, contributing to security concerns. Public transportation remains insufficient for a city of our size and our waste management systems require new thinking.
Sadly, the wealth generated by our economic growth appears concentrated among a small elite, while the vast majority of Lagosians struggle with stagnant wages against rising costs of living. As I have always argued, true economic progress must be measured not just by GDP or IGR figures but by tangible improvements in quality of our lives.
Therefore, until ordinary Lagosians can access decent housing, reliable infrastructure, and essential public services, our economic achievements will remain hollow statistics that fail to reflect our lived experiences.
Lagos deserves a leader that prioritizes inclusive growth. One that ensures that our economic success leaves no one behind.

Lagos is not just growing; we are leading.
With a GDP of $259 billion based on purchasing power parity (PPP), we have cemented our place as Africa’s second-largest city economy. This milestone is more than a number; it reflects the strength of our economy, the resilience of our people, and our city’s role as a hub for investment, trade, and opportunity.
Economic indices like PPP are crucial. They highlight real economic strength, competitiveness, and the cost-of-living advantage. From infrastructure to technology, tourism to manufacturing, we are driving sustainable growth.
Lagos remains at the forefront of Africa’s economic transformation, and the best is yet to come.

I remember visiting her at the hospital alongside @kisbykay last year and Ijeoma really fought to live. She kept proclaiming life.

Abia women are born brave warriors !!
This is how you promote a product made in your country , this is what Peter Obi as president would do for Innoson motors and other car manufacturers in Nigeria to boost the economy and strengthen the naira , Tinubu is a reproach to Nigeria 😭

Do you understand what it means for Tinubu's reforms leading to the shutdown of over 7 million businesses?
Nigerians didn't even take the news seriously.

Many Enugu and Eha-Amufu young men have been arrested and kept under Nigerian security custody and at Enugu Prisons without trials just for speaking up against the killings, kidnappings and raping of their women and people. This is completely unacceptable. We must fight back against every threat to our existence as a people. Our men must be released and our land protected. Enough is enough. Enugu people deserves their right to freedom and protection.

This is what @DavidHundeyin has been ringing like a bell for years now yet our ppl fail to comprehend ...they Intentionally force up on us the worst of us to lead the best of us just so they can achieve their demonic goal , the few greedy ones amongst us enable them
"During the civil war, we were sent out to campaign for our cause. I went to the United States and I remember Alhaji Shehu Shagari went to the Scandinavian countries. When we returned, we compared notes before submitting our reports to Gen Yakubu Gowon, the then Head of State. Shagari told me he met a common friend of ours and this is what the man told him.
"We know why you are here, you have come to seek our favour and support for your cause. But let me tell you, we do not care about you, all we care about are your resources.
If we could get robots to exploit your resources for us to develop our economy, we would not mind a lot of you being eliminated. You Nigerians are a peculiar case; you have the population, resources and we know your resources more than you do know about them.
All you need in Nigeria is a fairly long period of say ten to twenty years and you will be able to make it. You will become a very strong economy, will join the economic powers, but you need this period of uninterrupted peace and stability. But we will not allow it because within that period, you will use your brains, and Nigeria has got brains.
You will work hard and you are hard working people, you will exploit your resources and you have them in abundance and you will develop your economy. Developing your economy needs market and you have no problem with that because of your huge population, in addition, you will have the entire West African region as your market.
If that happens, you will be a thorn in our flesh; we would lose our source of raw materials because you would be using them in your factories. We would lose our market because you will be the market and also get other markets in West Africa.
So, even after your civil war, we would create one problem after the other for you so that you may not enjoy the peace and stability that will enable you develop and become such a strong country.
"So, it is up to us."
Late elder statesman and Dan Masanin Kano Alhaji Maitama Sule.
