Very enjoyable evening in Warwick with an audience clearly supporting the idea that Brexit was a disaster and net zero is the only way to go. Nice of @libdemdaisy to be there on her birthday! We all drank to her health afterwards apart from @ZiaYusufUK who legged it with his status symbol bodyguard. Fascinating to see how he did not make a single positive argument for Brexit. They never do. He has lovely shoes though, but a very weak handshake which is never a good sign in anyone.

π¨ Those who want to blame Covid for Brexit damage forget that Covid happened in Poland π΅π± too.
As did the energy shock and inflation. And Poland sits next door to a major European war. Yet Poland recovered.
Its economy grew around 3% in 2024, more than 3% in 2025 and is forecast to grow around 3.5% this year.
Why? Among the reasons identified by the IMF and EU Commission are investment, resilient domestic demand and huge EU backed investment in infrastructure, energy security and productive capacity.
Poland π΅π± remained inside the Single Market and has a β¬59.8bn EU Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Britain did something very different.
We suffered the same global shocks,
while simultaneously erecting new barriers with our biggest market.
And the OBR still estimates Brexit will leave UK productivity around 4% lower in the long run than remaining in the EU.
So please stop telling us Britainβs problems are simply because βCovid happenedβ.
