ALT We are devastated by this decision, which comes in the middle of the holiday season, and angered by the knowledge that each time The Dodo is subject to layoffs like these, the jobs of those who remain at the company only get harder. These job eliminations span teams that have long been understaffed and overworked, while Vox’s output and revenue expectations continue to grow. We’re particularly disgusted by the company’s decision to shutter El Dodo — our Spanish-language channel, which reaches millions of non-English speakers every day — laying off the entire El Dodo team and resulting in women of color being disproportionately affected by this decision. We’re grateful to be working under a hard-won contract that guarantees a generous severance package for our impacted members, but we demand that our parent company prioritize stability, longevity and solutions for its financial deficits that don’t include short-sighted layoffs of its union workforce.
