I haven't posted in a very long time so a change in Government is probably the right time for my long awaited comeback. Bringing some thoughts about housing and a nice infographic.

Labour’s manifesto is clear in its ambition to build more homes, 1.5 million over the next parliament. But housing issues have persisted as their roots are complex and unlikely to be solved unless radical policies are implemented. Can they do it? okt.to/3rq6ba
Very interesting blog - Of course if you remove the fact that highly-productive industries *agglomerate* in London, and that highly-productive jobs *agglomerate* in London too (which this paper does), then yes, I guess you will find that agglo effects barely exist... (1/2)

Interesting! Car parks are heavily subsidised - they occupy prime location for a fraction of the actual land price. So some people are taking advantage of this

This reporting from Japan is a great corrective to the "robots will replace all jobs" narrative. Some so-called "low-skilled" work is actually really hard to automate. By @siddshrikanth & @Urbandirt ft.com/content/beece6b8-4b1a…

With a growth in automation and high streets in decline, is the future of the economy threatening local taxation?

We know that #socialcare spending is putting increasing pressure on local government finance - what’s interesting is that some places are more at risk than others...
The (literally) billion £ question is: will they have the means *and* the capacity to support this?
How has #socialcare #spending changed in your city over the last decade? This map tells the story – and you can find out more in the full #CitiesOutlook2019 report: bit.ly/2Dy0SGZ

#Cities have shouldered 74% of all #localgovernment #austerity cuts since 2009, despite housing just 54% of the population. Find out which places have been impacted most in #CitiesOutlook2019: bit.ly/2Dy0SGZ
Amazing soviet map of London!
Replying to @JulesGrandin

Most people live and work in the same city-region -that's true in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands or France. Transports *within* city-regions are more important for jobs and growth than transports *in-between* cities.

The new UK digital services tax sounds similar in principle to what the EU is working on - taxing profits where they are but not penalising startups. #budget2018
If new exemptions and cuts on business rates are regularly introduced, it’s fundamentally because it is a poorly designed tax #Budget2018

This is interesting: both England and Italy are worse than the OECD average for upward mobility, but in Italy downward mobility is much less of an issue than in England. #socialmobility #OECDPISA #Education
