India's To Be or Not to Be Aircraft Carrier

Joined August 2022
Carrier critics: Aircraft Carriers (which move) are "sitting ducks" in today's ISR saturated, precision strike environment Also carrier critics: Shore-based air (which operates from static airfields) is the solution. youtube.com/watch?v=bAnhSkHR…

Beyond the usual IAF tantrums there is a major trap to avoid which even some of our better BTDTs don't seem to get. TCs must report to RM. All this "op role" for CDS just reveals how non strategic we are. If caliber of RM is a problem, address that structurally.
Both things are simultaneously true a. Entire approach to major NatSec reforms-from how CDS/DMA was created to TCs is half-baked as usual and deeply flawed b. The IAF's arguments are bogus. And it will undermine TCs post implementation too Now, just implement and fix later.

My take: Despite all the naysayers, #TheatreCommands will finally be announced within this fiscal itself! It will then take 18 months for the 3 theatre commands to become a reality on the ground. All this talk about not dividing air assets has been factored in for long!

Huh, what? Bofors was also built on a single news report. Pentagon Papers too.
#BREAKING on Bar & Bench Election Commission of India files counter affidavit in Supreme Court on plea against CEC's functioning; says petition built entirely on a single news report What ECI says: 🔹 Affidavit approved unanimously by all three members: the CEC and both Election Commissioners 🔹 All three SIR orders (June 2025, October 2025, May 2026) were unanimous decisions of the Commission 🔹 Notes, queries or suggestions by the CEC or ECs while a file moves are not decisions of the Commission 🔹 Files go to one EC, then the other EC, then the CEC. In urgent cases, approval is taken electronically and recorded on file later 🔹 Any officer issuing orders beyond delegated powers will face action 🔹 July 28 work allocation order was issued by an Additional Secretary on deputation. Both ECs wrote to the Cabinet Secretary the next day. The order was never implemented after the ECs' joint direction of July 30 🔹 Form 6 has not been amended. Only the Centre can amend it. The SIR declaration is a separate document 🔹 Admits the online display could be read as an amendment. From October 21, the online application will be split into Form 6 and the declaration, as in the physical form 🔹 Unmapped voters need not attend hearings. BLOs will collect documents from their homes. Hearings only in exceptional cases, preferably online 🔹 ECINet: no name is added or deleted except by order of the ERO. A committee with experts from IIT and IISc has been set up to check compliance 🔹 Goa: of 97 "left out" voters, 88 had already been enrolled, 6 were abroad and 3 held Portuguese passports 🔹 West Bengal appeals against inclusion of voters were filed by officers of the CEO, West Bengal, under Supreme Court orders. "These matters were not brought to the Commission" 🔹 Plea to restrain the CEC is not maintainable. CEC can be removed only like a Supreme Court judge 🔹 Commission never released or authorised the release of any internal note or file to the media 🔹 Repeated challenges to EVMs already rejected by the Supreme Court 🔹 Short reply filed due to Dussehra vacation. ECI seeks liberty to file a detailed para-wise response #ElectionCommission #SupremeCourt #SIR

When the CDS said it "just a matter of time" at the NDTV Defence Summit that was the time to push back and grill him. But bootlicking on the stage while pretending to serve national interest by these pseudo realist takes is the MO of you and your ilk.
Theaterisation will never happen in the Indian armed forces.

A reminder that "Behind Enemy Lines" was inspired by a USAF incident. But Hollywood adapted it with a Navy setting bcos.... Well, you know.😃
This is a little snippet of the movie “Behind Enemy Lines” from 2001 when the F/A-18 Super Hornet is engaged by a SAM but I added the proper RWR warning tones for a radar guided missile. Why movies don’t use the real warning tones is beyond me, these alert tones convey the proper sense of urgency you would want in a movie.

Strategic assets are controlled by SFC. Beyond parroting what brass tells you what exactly do you chaps understand about the military domain? Blind misleading the blind.

"The Chandigarh Lobby" consists of mostly average chaps, some below par but also some exceptional BTDTs. The General one can critique on some technocratic issues but he is a Babbar Sher. One of our finest You however are a weasel and a disgrace to the uniform you once wore.

Wrong. That's like saying KGB or CIA was/is in charge of all foreign int. GRU spetsnaz, KGB had its own. Navy had its own. Spetsnaz- is a catch all term to describe Soviet and now Russian SOF. Which has now undergone another restructuring with KSSO, an attempt to mimic SOCOM
GRU was always in charge of spec ops - Spetsnaz brigades are under them- Unit 29155 for overseas actions. Larger and deadlier than KGB direct action units.

Finally, Kurita gets a mention. Amateurs talk Yamamoto and Nagumo Hipsters talk Kurita🙃
Oct 25, 1944. A handful of small American ships stand between the most powerful battleship in the world and the Leyte beachhead. Just after dawn, lookouts on a little group of ships off the island of Samar saw pagoda masts on the horizon. They were Taffy 3, under Rear Admiral Clifton Sprague. Six small escort carriers, slow converted merchant hulls built to support troops ashore. Three destroyers. Four destroyer escorts. Nothing designed to fight battleships. Coming at them was Admiral Kurita's Center Force. Four battleships, including the giant Yamato with her 18-inch guns. Six heavy cruisers. Light cruisers and destroyers. Kurita had come through San Bernardino Strait in the night. Halsey's fleet, which everyone thought was guarding it, had gone north chasing Japanese carriers. Nobody was there to stop Kurita. Except Taffy 3. Sprague turned his carriers away, laid smoke, ducked into a rain squall, and launched every plane he had. Pilots attacked with whatever they carried, and when they ran out of bombs, they kept making dry runs on the Japanese ships to throw them off. Then the destroyers turned and charged. USS Johnston, under Commander Ernest Evans, went first. USS Hoel and USS Heermann followed. Then the little destroyer escort USS Samuel B. Roberts, built to hunt submarines, ran straight at heavy cruisers. They fired torpedoes, fired every gun they had, and dodged through shell splashes taller than their masts. Hoel was shot to pieces and sank. Samuel B. Roberts was torn open by battleship shells and went down. Johnston kept fighting until she was dead in the water and sinking, and Evans went down with her. The carrier USS Gambier Bay was caught by Japanese cruisers and sunk by gunfire. She is the only American carrier ever sunk by enemy surface ships. But the Japanese fleet was scattered, confused, and convinced it was fighting a much bigger force. At 9:11 a.m., Kurita broke off. Later he turned back north toward the strait, with the transports at Leyte almost within reach. Sprague later wrote that his ships survived only through skill, bravery and what he called the partiality of God. A few small ships, outgunned beyond all reason, had turned back the strongest fleet Japan had left.

Our bigoted clowns in power and beyond that the entire political class seem to have no idea about the fundamental shift underway in India. Continued repression or biz as usual if the opposition comes to power is going to invite a backlash from the masses. Enjoy Karma then

Wait till you find out what India was up to in the 50s and 60s This "had some balls" framing on NatSec issues though. Might be good to embarass the current clownshow in power. But the real problem in NatSec is mostly "lack of brains" Time to ditch populism. Or don't.
I knew India supported Najibullah government in Afghanistan, but only today years old to learn that India actually sent an effing plane to evacuate him. We had some balls in 90s.

On such good terms that a. IAF instructors trained Iraqi pilots. As did PAF. b. Iraqi nuclear scientists trained at Indian facilities. But kept clearly away from the military program. The CIA that was monitoring, noted this in internal assessment
Replying to @Vaishnavii_gaur
India was in very good terms with Saddam and the Baath Party as well.
