International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations, Submits Petition to International Justice Bodies ​Today. we submitted a petition to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the European Union, and the relevant human rights institutions regarding the Egyptian airstrike targeting Sudanese artisanal miners in the Jabal Al-Uwaidat area and the Al-Ansari market in Northern Sudan, located along the Egypt–Sudan border region. ​The petition was signed by ten organizations representing more than seven countries, including entities holding Consultative Status with the United Nations as well as African regional organizations. This joint human rights initiative seeks to achieve redress for the victims and their families, demand an independent investigation, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. ​The Coalition reaffirms its commitment to pursuing this petition and advocating for concrete measures to deliver justice and prevent impunity for the perpetrators. The International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations condemns in the strongest terms the drone strike on the Na'am market (Amit) in the Abyei region, which according to available information resulted in civilian casualties and property damage. ​According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, the attack was attributed to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), necessitating the accountability of military leadership and an investigation into the responsibility of both the perpetrators and those who issued the orders. ​The Coalition emphasizes that the protection of civilians and civilian markets is a binding obligation under international humanitarian law, and that any claims regarding the presence of military objectives do not justify indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks. It further warns of the repercussions of the bombing on the livelihoods of the population, peaceful coexistence and stability in the Abyei region. ​The Coalition calls upon the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to take urgent action and urges the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan to investigate the incident within its mandate, preserve evidence and determine responsibilities. BRUSSELS, October 13, 2026 The International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations held a meeting with a delegation headed by Mr. Francesco Di Lillo, Director of EU & International Affairs at The Church of Jesus Christ. The meeting addressed a number of humanitarian issues and prospects for joint cooperation. During the meeting, we provided a briefing on the situation in Sudan, including attacks targeting Sudanese miners. The discussions also addressed the need to end the war and achieve peace in Sudan as well as the importance of protecting civilians and alleviating humanitarian suffering. Statement of Condemnation Airstrike Targeting Sudanese Miners in the North Wadi Region. BRUXELLES, October 12,2026. The International Coalition of Human Rights Organizations strongly condemns the airstrike that targeted Sudanese miners in the North Wadi region on October 10, 2026. According to information received by the Coalition, the death toll has exceeded one hundred civilians. Innocent people who were working to earn their livelihood were killed, leaving behind bereaved families and injured individuals in urgent need of medical care. The Coalition attributes the attack to the Egyptian air force, which bombed the site inside Sudanese territory. Targeting civilians constitutes a condemned crime and a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law. Allegations of mining or smuggling do not justify subjecting civilians to bombardment or depriving them of protection. The Coalition calls for an urgent, independent international investigation to determine responsibility, document the number of casualties, preserve evidence, ensure accountability for those responsible, and secure justice for the victims' families. It also calls for the protection of witnesses, the facilitation of access for investigative and relief teams, and the provision of prompt medical treatment to the injured. The Coalition urges the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union and international human rights organizations to take immediate action, condemn the targeting of civilians, press for an end to these attacks, and guarantee their non-recurrence. It also invites human rights organizations to join a joint petition demanding truth, justice, and accountability, and amplifying the voices of the victims' families to the international community. The killing of civilians can neither be justified nor treated as a fleeting news item. The victims and their families have a right to truth and redress, and the international community must act.
