We discussed the WIOA reauthorization bills in the House & Senate and continued to advocate that our field-led provisions be included in the coming mark-up. COABE fights for you! Necessary funds that keep adult ed programs running only come about with direct advocacy. When funds are slashed, #AdultEducation is usually first in line to experience cuts. Today, COABE floods the hill to host meetings with legislators. We continue to foster and develop relationships with the representatives and senators who serve our nation so that they can see how vital adult ed is to our nation’s communities and economy as a whole.

🎉🎉🎉 #AEFLWeek Day 2 Recap:🎉🎉🎉 The day began with the news that the Senate passed a unanimous resolution declaring this week to be AEFL Week, and that the month of Sept. is designated as National Literacy Month! 👏👏 👏 From there, we moved to our Legislative Breakfast that was well attended by our SAAEFs as well as legislators and their staffers, including @SenSanders' office, among others. @RepRalphNorman and @SenJackReed even took time to individually make remarks and stayed to discuss issues with individuals at the breakfast. During this time we also had our Rise N Shine podcast running concurrently with the breakfast right on site. Our host @JeffreyAbramow5 led an impactful discussion with the author of “Call Me American,” @Abdi_Iftin. As soon as the breakfast finished we all made our way to the Capitol steps and took advantage of the photo opportunity (We got to meet @MissAmericaGA who came to promote #Literacy!) before heading straight into back-to-back meetings for the remainder of the afternoon. Dozens of legislative meetings were had by our entire group today and we can’t wait to share our collective impact report once the results are available! We know that advocacy is like a seed. One plants, one waters, and over time another will be ready to harvest. We look forward with anticipation to the fruit of our labors on the hill today and prepare for an even brighter future for the field of adult education! @SharonBonney

🎉🎉🎉#AEFLWeek Day 1 Recap: 🎉 🎉🎉 Our day started with an all-star lineup of guests on the Rise 'N' Shine podcast with Vicki Greene, President of @GEDTesting, Michelle Gilliard from @IBM SkillsBuild, and Ahu Moser from the Maryland DOL. The momentum continued as we launched into an inspirational discussion at our AEFL Week Kick-Off Event at the @usedgov with Asst. Sec. Amy L. and Director LaToya Newson. The day concluded with our SAAEF Training Dinner where Fellows were able to glean insight from #Advocacy pros @JeffreyAbramow5 and @VobornikErin followed by exciting networking opportunities and time to practice the advocacy tools they learned. @DollarGeneral
