Huge shoutout to @tcgmanifest. Everyone on that team is incredible, welcoming, and played a massive role in my CCQ prep.
Special thanks to @FreddyRivera22 for all the prep leading into the event, and @GRatMartin for running last-minute games late last night when I was stressing over top 8. Appreciate you guys.
Had the honor of playing against (and losing to!) @DarianTCG at @TTD_Louisville for the @DisneyLorcana Infinity CCQ to make Top 4.
Proud of the prep and progress this weekend. Loved chatting with everyone who stopped by to say hi.
The journey to NA Championships continues. I’ll be there, one way or another.
Made Top 4 in Swiss at the @TTD_Louisville @DisneyLorcana CCQ!
Top 8 starts tomorrow at 1 PM, playing for prizes and an invite to the next North America Championship. Tough field ahead, but ready for it. Wish me luck (unless you're my competition; totally understood).
My first CCQ in the Season of Villainy and it's in my favorite format, Infinity! Can't wait to see everyone there!
Serious question for hardcore @DisneyLorcana grinders: We often hear reps separate average players from the best.
At what point do you hit diminishing returns?
What does game 1,000 teach you that games 150, 200, or 300 didn't?

one of the things I love about Disney Lorcana is the low floor and high ceiling
it’s simple to pick up the basics & can get more complicated in top tier play
it makes the game accessible to so many people & it offers something for players at any skill level

Kind of random, but, it meant a lot to stumble upon this tweet this morning.
I will be the first to say that there was a lot of luck to how I ended up commentating my first big event, a @_proplaygames event in Houston. But…since then, I worked hard to be worthy of the responsibility the chair brings with it.
It doesn’t matter the event - whether it’s a huge tournament or a small league night - when you commentate a game, the players who sit down on camera put a lot of trust in you to represent their game in a way that does them credit. And I feel commentators owe them their very best.
What makes this tweet hit hard is not what it means to me (although it did mean a lot). But rather…the credit it gives to those I’ve sat beside at various events.
I wish everyone could see the countless hours many who have dedicated themselves to this craft put in behind the scenes. Sacrificing family time, money, other content and opportunities, to rehearse, study, and get better. Learning the meta, studying cards, learning the players, the art, the stories. It’s impossible to know everything going into an event, but many try to, regardless. Every hour spent on camera covering a match is the culmination of days of work. Days for which there is no reward other than that brief bit of time on camera for the match where you can bring your best.
So, when I read this, I saw all those hours flash before my eyes. The late night chats, the travel, the study…the work everyone puts in. I have so much respect for everyone who dedicates their time to be the best they can.
I think there is a perception, for some, that these opportunities are a perk of content creation. That people do their own content and are selected for commentary roles at any level because of that work.
Maybe that’s true, maybe it’s not. I won’t and can’t speak for how anyone is selected for any role. But what I will say is that regardless of how anyone is selected, I know those picked take the responsibility seriously and work tirelessly in ways many don’t see to be the best they can. To many, commentating is a job, a profession even, independent of their other content. And they work to be worthy of the role.
I realize it seems largely self serving to salute other commentators, but, that’s a risk I’ll take with this tweet. I’ll close by saying that I salute those who dedicate themselves to excellence in anything. Excellence takes work and it takes sacrifice. I try to respect and honor that commitment when I recognize it. The TCG players who spend hundreds of hours grinding, the commentators who spend days studying, the lore guides, athletes, actors, sign spinners, mascots…The world is richer for your hard work, even if we only see a fraction of it.
Commentating or casting is not a "reward" for being a content creator. It is a high pressure public facing job, requiring the ability to communicate with a huge amount of people live, while balancing the needs of stakeholders involved. People who are selected to do this always have my full support.
Being part of the community is not necessarily a requirement, but being able to do your job and tick all the boxes is. If your end goal of being a content creator is for the rewards that you might get, then I would say it's probably better to use your time for something else.

I love the internal language TCGs create for themselves. Everyone knows all the Magic ones used even in other games.
I love that in @DisneyLorcana, folks are calling Toulouse "Pete Cat" and I've been hearing folks call resources in other games ink.

UPDATE ON JUSTINE ❤️
Justine wanted everyone to know that he is doing okay and is incredibly thankful for all the love, messages, and support everyone has shown him.
After speaking with multiple immigration attorneys, voluntary departure/self deportation currently appears to be the most practical option and may allow Justine to return home sooner, while also avoiding the potentially very high costs of a lengthy legal battle.
Update on the GoFundMe: The original fundraiser was refunded in full because the wording made it seem like the funds could only be used for attorney fees. The original organizer, Borris, wanted to make sure everything was handled appropriately.
Because of that, I created a new GoFundMe with a broader purpose. The funds will be used for Justine and whatever he needs, whether that's legal expenses, travel, housing, food, relocation, getting settled somewhere new, or anything else that directly helps him through this situation and afterward.
The goal is simple: support Justine, no matter what happens next. Justine is currently waiting on his court date which is scheduled for 9/30 (they rescheduled his original date).
If you donated to the original fundraiser, your donation was refunded, and you're welcome to donate again through the new one if you're able.
If you can't donate, sharing the fundraiser helps tremendously.
Thank you all for continuing to stand behind Justine.
