Nothing like shaft testing at the end of the season. This thing is a weapon.

Hackensack Golf Club- Emerson, NJ What an absolute treat this was. The first solo design from Charles Banks, Hackensack ranks as one of the finest members courses we’ve played to date. The course opened in 1928 and is laden in celebrated template holes, including one of the best Redan holes around. There is no shortage of beauty and fun here, the course is playable yet properly challenging. Also noteworthy is an all-world punchbowl green on the 16th, it’s tremendous. Conditions were perfect and we were lucky to get the best fall golf day you could ask for. I’d run, not walk to get membership here, thank you EG for an awesome day out there! I can’t speak highly enough of Hackensack GC from start to finish.

Probably in the minority but I enjoy TGL for what it is. There's so little to watch in the evenings during the winter. Makes for good background noise if nothing else.

Portstewart Golf Club [Strand] (@PortstewartGC )- Portstewart, UK The main event of this trip and the motivating factor behind the 3 hour drive from Dublin! Known as one of (if not the best) opening tee shots and front 9s in Ireland (or the world), the Strand wastes no time in getting the juices flowing. The first shot is spectacular. Perched way above a winding fairway with beach on the right and towering dunes ahead and left, it is impossible not to smile and take it in. The entire front is as advertised and magnificent, easily the best set of 9 I can recall playing. The back isn’t gifted with the same dramatic land yet still offers some compelling holes. If it had the same punch as the front I have no doubt this course would be ranked amongst the Lahinchs of the world, it’s that good. The club staff was incredible. The warmest welcome I’ve received and countless interactions made the day so special. I’m so happy I made the voyage north to experience Portstewart and would love to return as soon as I can. Don’t forget a Guinness and sausage roll at the turn!

Castlerock Golf Club (@CastlerockGC)- Castlerock, UK A late addition to the itinerary, Castlerock delivered and some, proving it stands its grounds amongst heavyweight neighbors Portstewart and Royal Portrush. This is the type of place that embodies the spirit of a proper Irish/UK club. Tucked into town, unpretentious, rock solid golf. I admittedly wasn’t familiar with Castlerock when planning my trip to the area, but you’d be doing yourself a disservice overlooking the club. It is a great test, demanding off the tee with lots of elevation change culminating in the signature par 5 17th. From the highest point on the course, a truly excellent par 5 tumbles down towards the clubhouse with dramatic bunkering guiding the way. It’s an awesome hole and an extremely memorable par 5. Castlerock is a joy to play. I’m really glad I did and will happily recommend it to anyone looking to add a round in Northern Ireland.

Awesome that the Byrne is getting proper credit-we can’t speak highly enough of it and comfortably place it as the top public course in NJ

Corballis Links Golf Club- Corballis, IE 🇮🇪 Known as one of the best values in golf, Corballis Links undoubtedly provides a glimpse into links golf at an extremely accessible price point. It is a polarizing course, and we see why. The front 9 plays close to the water with some scenic holes, highlighted by the strong stretch of holes 2-6. Just a par 66, length off the tee isn’t demanded often, with placement far more a premium. Unfortunately, the finishing stretch from 13 on is quite weak and poorly designed, the 15th and 16th offer nothing but tee shots being fired in your direction from opposite sides of an open field. Conditions were quite poor, fairways and some greens consisted of more dirt than grass, with many tee boxes cordoned off in place of spots of dirt or in the case of the finisher, a piece of paper in a patch of grass. I’m torn on this review, I think there are times the course can present better that would leave a better impression. It is surely great value at the end of the day with some quality holes, but I’d recommend paying a bit more for one of the several clubs in the surrounding area that offer a more memorable experience.

Up first, Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club (@LandBGolfClub)- Bettystown, IE A charming club sitting just outside the top 50 in Ireland, L&B was a proper and fun links test to kick off the trip. The front 9 is very strong, featuring the dramatic undulations and elevation changes that great links boast. Elevated greens are the defining feature, don’t go over the back on them or you’ll find yourself searching through fescue on a steep drop off! Conditions were very strong and we thought the club offered great value in the ever increasing price landscape of Irish golf for overseas players. I’d definitely recommend L&B for a taste of a proper club in the Dublin area without leaving a huge hole in the wallet, the members are proud of their course/club and they should be!

While Shayne has been holding it down up North I’ve been in Ireland for my bachelor party and of course, golf- time to share some of the gems we found on the other side of the pond over the coming days!

My playing partner made an ace this morning, third one I’ve witnessed including my own. Just nothing better to experience on the course. Anyone witnessed a crazy number of hole in ones?

More pro shops need to stock long sleeve polos. They're perfect for this time of the year.

Bethpage (Black)- Farmingdale, NY Living up to its reputation and some, the Black course at Bethpage gifted us with one of our favorite days in quite some time, leaving us clamoring for another shot at this beast of a golf course. There’s not much that hasn’t been said about this historic Tillinghast legend, but the experience is a blast from start to finish. While you’ll leave with sore legs and some big numbers on the card, we promise you’ll also be smiling through it all and wanting another go right away. Without question the best value in 🇺🇸 golf, this is an absolute must for any golf enthusiast. – at Bethpage, NY

Internationals pissing down their legs and taking away any late intrigue to the P cup is unfortunate
