His name was Al-Tayeb Al-Hadi Ahmed. He was 16 years old.
Both his parents were dead. He was raising five younger siblings. He owed two measures of sesame and four sacks of sorghum.
He went looking for work near the Sudanese-Egyptian border. He never came home.
His final words to his siblings?
βI forgive you, and I am pleased with you. Please forgive me, too.β
Even as he lay dying, he worried about repaying the sesame he owed.
Sixteen years old. Five younger siblings. A debt measured in sesame.
This is what war and displacement have done to Sudanβs children. Robbed them of their childhoods, forced them to carry unimaginable burdens, and, in Al-Tayebβs case, stolen their lives.
May Allah grant him Jannah and protect the five children he leaves behind.

For two weeks, my daughter Kinda has been asking me to buy her a small toy she saw her friend with at school. It costs no more than $20.
Since that day, I have been promising her every day, βTomorrow, my darling. Iβll bring you the toy.β
Another day passes, and my little girl waits for me. But I return empty-handed, repeating the same promise, knowing how much she longs for that little toy.
My pharmacy, my only source of income, was destroyed, and I have become unable to provide even the most basic necessities for my children. Even through this fundraising campaign, I have not received any help for many days.
Nothing breaks a fatherβs heart more than watching his little girl wait for a small wish to come true while he is unable to make it happen.
Please help me bring happiness to my children and provide for their needs. I do not want another tomorrow to come, with Kinda waiting for me, only for me to return without her toy once again.
