Minor tweak to the profile now that I am officially Chief Officer of the Isle of Man Special Constabulary. Very pleased to have been asked to take on the role after a very thorough interview with the Chief Constable and @DCIDaveDobbie

Lots to be getting on with in the new year, and looking forward to working with the excellent team of volunteers to improve what we can offer to the Constabulary.

#volunteersweek ends tomorrow. On the Isle of Man, 11 Special Constables have made time to come out and assist in the massive policing operation that is required for the TT motorcycle races.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in and you’re up for a new challenge that you wouldn’t get in the day job, or want to learn new transferrable skills to give you the edge for the next promotion?

We will be recruiting later this year for our next cohort of Special Constables to start training in early 2025. If you want to discuss any aspect of the work, the application and assessment process, or the training requirements, please get in touch!

Briefing day ahead of our first of this year's TT duties on Friday. Officers are drafted in from different departments to support the RPU which increases from 6 to over 20. Myself and two other SCs take time off from the day jobs to work full time with team for the fortnight too.

Benefits to going to cover in the south of the island yesterday - amazing views from the Sloc down to Port St Mary 🚓 Lots of visitors over seeing the Isle of Man at its best 🌅

The cause of Friday's very early morning call out (faulty 11kV cast iron joint) and the very old cable and joint which was the cause of today's early morning callout 💤

After a very early morning call to assist the standby engineer with a challenging HV fault, a day spent out in the open doing some 4x4 training was just what we needed.

Unexpected functional test of the Circuit Breaker Fail protection during switching this morning 😬 Good to see it does what it should do in the event of a genuine fault though.

What’s a #BlackStart? Well it’s NOT an outage, power cut, loss of supply, localised fault, blown fuse, shutdown, trip, fault. It’s a TOTAL shutdown of the power system, with the desynchronisation of all power stations. It’s DEAD 😵 We have NEVER had one. So relax folks ☺️ [1/20]

Nothing like a bit of bus zone protection testing through to the trip relays to get the blood pumping on a chilly Monday morning!

Following motor vehicle collision all patients should be encouraged to self-extricate asap. If not possible, need to create minimum safe space for self/rescuer extrication w/o delay africafiremission.org/missio… #FPHC2023

Not an original idea - seen a few others recently, but I think I've done a reasonable job giving this amazing piece of engineering a new lease of life...

Keeping the lights on is definitely in the genes. My dad made electricity, and I move it around. Photo taken from a Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station newsletter in 1971.
